I love the idea! If my maiden name could work as anything other than a last name I would so do that too!

@travelgirl1: Awwww!!! Thank you!

My daughter is named Harper James LastName and we actually get a lot of compliments on how cool/hip it is...DH's middle name is Michael after the Catholic Saint so he wanted LO to have the same concept, and he thought James went well with Harper. At first I was like, "Whaaaaa???" But it only took a couple of hours for me to really love it. I think if a name works, it works, masculine/feminine/whatever!

I'm kind of jealous of my daughter's name! I think the masculine middle name makes it really edgy or something? Like I met a girl named Ryan once and I was like- there's nothing fancy about the name Ryan for a boy, but on a girl, it's cool as hell!

Coming from an Irish Catholic family on my mother's side, I was always amused that while one of my aunts is called Mary, and my mother and my other aunt have Mary as a middle name, all four of my uncles *also* have Mary as a middle name. It's part of the confirmation name, certainly, but it's still there!

I think it's great--go for it! My female cousin's middle name is her mom's maiden name, and it's a very strong, unusual German name. It's great that she's "carrying on" that name in a certain way.

I think its wonderful! What a great idea. I think that masculine middle names are great. People never really judge/care about middle names, but when its something meaningful, its so cool.
Especially something like 'James' or 'Michaels' - I think they would be so unique!

I love the idea! I am also from the South where it is very widely done. Like @Weagle: @stiffaknee: I know a lot of baby girls whose name is ______ (usually Ann, Mary, or Grace) then mom's maiden name. I think it would be perfect with the classic feminine girls names on your list :)

I have 2 middle names: 1 feminine and then my mother's maiden name. I loved having that connection to her and plan on doing the same with our LO! Actually if it's a boy, we will give him my maiden name as his first name. If it's a girl it will become a middle name.

I love the idea of doing that! I am named after my great-grandfather (whose middle name was McKinley) and my grandfather (Ray). I never knew another Kinley growing up. So when my husband wanted a really traditional first name for our daughter, we kept the family name going as a middle name. She is Katherine McKinley. I like the way it sounds, and I figure that if she ever has to be one of two or more kids in her class with the name Katie, she can be Katie Mac instead of "Katie B."

I say go for it. Its a part of her heritage and I think she'll be proud of it. I knew lots of girls that had last names as their middle name (fredricks, brett, charles) and I always thought it was cool. But I'm also in the south, where every girl I know has named their baby Mary+Maiden Name or Ann+Maiden Name.
