I've had squishy-like lumps (also on my over-producing side) and it was usually because the blockage was near the surface - either a bleb or something just inside. Massage didn't help as well as for a regular lump, nursing and trying to squeeze the problem to the surface worked a bit better. It's still a good idea to get it checked out, but hopefully that's all! And hope you're feeling better by now!

Just came on to say ditto about the lecithin! I take NOW brand sunflower lecithin, 1 pill 3x day because I get plugged ducts just from thinking about my boobs. Being absolutely rigorous about the lecithin pills (I can't even skip one) is the only thing that seems to help me. I hope they help you too!

As part of my job, I did PR on the topic of developing breast cancer while breastfeeding. It's rare - I think only 3% of women - but it terrified me and I self check religiously now.

I remember one of the breast specialists saying to see your ob/gyn about any lumps and if they don't go away within a week, to go back and push further. Many doctors will brush off lumps in younger people, especially breastfeeding moms, so you sometimes have to be your own advocate. However, many of the moms I talked to actually had more trouble feeding on the side that had the lump (unlike yours who is on your workhorse side).

All that said - I'm sure it's nothing!! Hopefully just a clogged duct that will go away soon!

I had something similar and it turned out to be a galactocele. The doctor drained it a few weeks ago and it hasn't yet come back, thankfully.

@MenagerieMama: my plugged ducts are sometimes wedge like, and sometimes quarter shaped in various places. When they are the smaller round ones I try to massage and compress that area, but it hurts like hell. Someone here recommended lecithin so I immediately got it and have been taking it for 2 days. The plugged ducts have gotten better, but not completely gone.

I had something similar and I have the breast cancer gene so I took it very seriously. I had to fight so hard to get an ultrasound while lactating! Mine was an oval shape, about an inch across and a little less than half an inch wide. They decided it was not serious. It didn't move which tumors typically do and it wasn't super hard. But it was uncomfortable to push on.

Hopefully yours will be similar and they'll just do additional monitoring.

@Pumpkin Pie: this seemed different than my usual plugged ducts but Id really like that to be the reason! It feels more round than the usual wedge like. Do yours ever feel round? And tell me about lecithin! I want to fix this issue and it sounds great :)

I get plugged ducts a lot. Like several every week. I've been taking lecithin for a couple days and I think it's been helping. You may still have the plugged duct and that may be why you have that lump. Sometimes it can take several days before it fully for away. I try to massage and hand express in a hot shower.

Okay ladies, I need help. Of course this is also a day I'm working 14 hrs for the first time (instead of my usual 8) and pumping for all of it.

About a month ago a noticed a small pea sized lump in my left breast, which is my overproducer, and talked to my PCP about it and I'm going to be seen in the breast clinic probably for an ultrasound. Think it's likely a galactocele. About 2 wks ago I got a plugged duct in the same area as the lump (lump is upstream of it though) 2x in one week and the second time it took almost a day to resolve. I hadn't had one since the first month of BFing. Now since then that whole area that got plugged has felt more hard and a little sore. Over the past few days though it feels like I have a tender somewhat lumpy golf ball in that area. I can barely feel the lump within it. It will not budge with warm compresses, shower, massage, frequent nursing.

What is going on?? I'm thinking I should see an LC this week before the other spot next week but wanted to see if anyone else had similar experiences. My poor boobie is sore! I'm not sick in any other way.
