@JoJoGirl: ugh - my husband tried to shield me from the Wakefield creep, but I saw it on the news...sickening. Sorry, no advice, but interested to see.... We have just been doing a lot of visits. We looked at a few in home daycares but they didn't feel right for us. Been asking around too since we are pretty new to the area and don't know anyone - but it's tough! We really liked the kindercare in Wakefield actually.., still undecided though.

He was raping 8 day old babies. Horrified. It was UNlicensed daycare, but still - so scary.

@crash806: We're looking at both in-home and centers. There just aren't that many centers near where we are. Maybe 1? And it seems decent so it's definitely on our list, and surprisingly it's the same price as the in-homes. We don't have friends who live in our immediate neighborhood so not many word-of-mouths right now :(

@crash806: OMG, that is HORRIBLE!! i didn't hear about that, so awful! in home daycares can be so wonderful if you find a good one, but so scary if you don't =( most of the time it's not the provider but other ppl that they trust that come in and do awful things. breaks your heart when you hear ppl are capable of doing such things to such innocent little souls

@sorrycharlie: Something along the lines that a woman had a in-home (unlicensed) daycare and her husband (registered sex offender) sexually assualted children as young as a couple weeks old..disgusting.

I've used the same website and tried emailing about 20 in my area and I think only 5 emailed me back and out of those five none of the hours worked for us. Are you looking into in-home or centere based? Word of mouth referral worked best for us.

I used the same list to find places around home and work (40 min difference alas) and emailed each center for prices and checked their hours first (hubs is also a teacher so we wanted one that could give us summers off). We then visited the ones that fit and settled on the one we felt comfortable with. Hope that helps! We searched around Mansfield and Foxboro.

Starting my search and found this site: http://www.eec.state.ma.us/ChildCareSearch/EarlyEduMap.aspx

Looks like it lists all the licensed daycares in the state by geography! Seems helpful but wondering if you guys have any other tips for finding centers or in-home that are licensed and maybe have references. I found a couple on Yelp but not many, and DH is totally freaked out about finding somewhere on Craigslist (and I haven't even told him what happened near us with that Wakefield dude..I am too traumatized :( ).

Thanks!!
