We have a duvet set from Dwell Studio and switch out sheets seasonally (fluffy fleece like ones in winter, cool bamboo ones in summer).

For those having issues with duvets moving around or getting twisted - i always pin the 4 corners of the duvet into the inside corners of the duvet cover with some safety pins (pin on some extra fabric on the inside, doesn't go through to the outside at all). Keeps it in place! The feathers still can shift around a bit and it seems "fatter" at the bottom of the bed, but the top still has duvet in place as it should.

Bumping this up with a question, has anyone used the Westin Collection sheets? I was browsing Amazon for a flat King sheet and came across the collection, but it is pricey, so I wanted to see if anyone had any personal experience.

We have a white duvet cover, with a soft, fluffy duvet, and have no problems with it. You do want to buy a duvet that meets your needs however: warm and fluffy, or light and cool. We're used white sheets in the past and not had any issues. Right now we have dark blue (600 thread count) sheets, and are enjoying the contrast with the white duvet cover. It has a gray Greek key design around the edges to break up all the white.

We love our Vera Wang sheets from Kohl's - super thick and wrinkle free high quality sheets and worth the money. We like our Tommy Bahama down alternative comforter from Costco - it's lightweight but warm - and we use it inside a duvet. We have a few but IKEA I found to have very reasonably priced duvet/pillowcase sets at $50-ish for a king size. They are modern and simple and the material feels light and airy. If you like heavy duvets that lay heavy on the bed I would recommend Pottery Barn.

I used to buy bedroom in box type sets but every 6 months or so we would buy a new set and color. Finally, I decided to get a solid colored comforter (down alternative so I can use it year round) from Costco and just get sheets that match. So much easier. We lived in our apartment for 5 years and I had at least 4-5 different comforter sets when we moved out. I donated them all to goodwill. Also, after a year or so, the comforters would get flat or the quality would deteriorate, so I was kinda forced to buy a new comforter set. (Oh, we let our two dogs sleep on the bed, so that doesn't help.) I now have 2 comforters (in solid ivory or green) and I have a few sheet sets that go with each comforter. My furniture and lamps are neutral. Oh, I don't have any blinds but if I did, I would pick something that would match the ivory and green comforters.

Oh, I tried duvets but I found them so annoying because the comforter would always get tangled.

@youboots: I second the west elm recommendation for duvets and comforters- plus I find them to be pretty reasonably priced, especially if you watch for sales. But I think their sheets are a little scratchy, maybe it's just the one set of pillow cases I got.

We also have light blue walls and looked for light gray bedding- it ended up feeling too cold in our room so we got something in a warmer color family.

I love West Elm, they have fab sales for duvet covers and pillow covers. We have an extra deep matress and the only place I find sheets that are deep enough are Target.

ETA link. The duvet I have from WE is not being sold anymore, I have 2 sets one is 3 years old, I replaced the pillow cases because they got dingy but the duvet is still going strong.

One thing to consider with white, does your husband sweat a lot in his sleep?

I had white sheets when I got married. DH sleeps in nothing but boxers and those white sheets didn't stay white very long.

(And I've subscribed...because my realtor thought my comforter was too loud)

I'm looking for a new bedding set for our master and wanted to know...where is a good place to buy bedding sets? Right now, we're still using comforters, pillow shams, etc. from random sales but I'm ready for a more cohesive, grown-up look!

Also, I love light, airy colors (our bedroom is painted a light blue-grey) so I was thinking of white or grayish bedding, but with two little ones in the house, am I nuts to think these will escape stains and spills?
