@Foodnerd81: We sleep on 2 standard sized pillows, that i put at the base of the 3 Euro pillows. Then I use one of the king-sized pillows between my knees, since I'm a side sleeper (so they are hidden in the picture but there). And then we have 4 king sized pillow (in the picture you can only see the front 2.) Right now, all of the pillows are in regular pillow cases, if we got Shams it would only be on 2 of them and we'd still have 2 in regular pillow cases.

@Anagram: as a simple option, have you tried a patterned throw blanket or folded quilt at the foot of the bed?

What pillows do you sleep on? I wouldn’t want to sleep on curtain pillows or velvet.

The curtains in my master bedroom were "custom" made by my mom and I, and I have a single piece of fabric left that I will eventually make into a large rectangle pillow. I plan to back it with a solid color that has turned out to be difficult to match, but I am holding out.

The new look for bedding is to not have so many pillows. Instead of a row of three Euro shams, the new thing is to have one or two really big pillows in the back. I haven't figured out how that translates into real life though.

I think shams/pillowcases on your middle set of pillows would be nice! I feel like if you do blue velvet on the front it’s too much with your footstools. You’ll have two large fields of the blue which is a dark color that sucks in the light with only your bedspread to break them up. I would leave the front pillows as is or choose a differently patterned but coordinating fabric for them.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I have the most basic sewing skills, but I do have a sewing machine, so I was going to attempt the pillow covers myself (since it's basically just straight lines and not very complicated).

But a bed skirt.....I'd have to enlist my mother, on her next visit from GA. But I have to buy the clearance curtains now, so I have to decide today.

@Anagram: well since you said custom I figured let’s get funky with it!

If you have to get everything made; what if you got the Euro shams in the Ikat on one side and blue velvet on the other; then still got a new bolster pillow that incorporated one more color. This way you could flip the Euros around and have a Spring/ Summer pattern look and Velvet for Fall/ Winter look. Since the comforter is light I think the king shams play off of that nicely already.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I like the idea of another color! That’s what I was going to suggest - bolsters in accent

@Anagram: a bed skirt wouldn't be hard if you did a straight style.

I would do the euro shams with the curtain material and a blue velvet King sham. If you really want a bolster if do blue velvet euro & bolster and then use the curtain material for King shams

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I don’t even think about a new bed skirt. Hmmm....that seems more complicated than some simple pillow covers. I’ll have to see if that’s doable.

Lovely room as-is. I’d buy another set or two of the curtains and get a bed skirt made.

Then, I’d go with solid euro shams in blue to play off the footstools. Then I’d pick a fourth color since you have lots of blue/ white/ gray already get a ready-made bolster that incorporates all the colors or get that custom made too. Anthro has a bunch of long pillows, but there more boho compared to your actual bedding.

One year later, I am still (very slowly) updating our home decor. FYI—I like patterns. And I’m not afraid of some serious matchy-matchy. I also don’t mind pattern mixing.

So I’m in the market for just the right pillows to put on our master bed. We have a king size bed, for reference. I already own 3 euro size pillow that I put at the back and I bought white with navy lines trim shams. And I have ikat curtains in shades of blue and gray. And I have blue velvet footstools at the foot of the bed.

The curtains are on clearance now so I’m thinking about buying one to make some matching pillow cases—but what kind of pillows? Should the print-that-matches the curtains be on shams for the 2nd set of king size pillows on the bed? With the plain solid ones in front? And then maybe get blue velvet bolster pillows to match the footstools?

If that’s confusing, here’s a crappy cell phone pic of our bedroom from Christmas (ignore the giant box—that was a present). So, keep the 3 euro pillows in the back as is. Make new shams in the print to match the curtains to be on the second (hidden in this picture) set of king pillow behind the plain gray pillows. And then 2 modern bolster pillows on each side in the front, in blue velvet fabric that match the footstools.

Or, should the bolsters be in the print and the shams in velvet?

Wall decor is next. 1st pic is mine, the rest are print/pillow inspiration.
