Master is down while all the other bedrooms are upstairs. If your kid STTN, I think this is fine. Otherwise, going up and down the stairs might be a PIA!

We do. Actually it is kind of nice because the only rooms upstairs are the two kids rooms (one is currently just a guest room until DS2 arrives). Our house is small but we can do whatever we want (within reason) without worrying about waking DS. I loved it going from a 2 bedroom apartment where I had to stay in our room during his nap or risk waking him up.

We have this! Master and 1 bedroom are upstairs and other two rooms are downstairs. Baby is in the upstairs room and LO1 (now 4) is downstairs. I was worried but it has really been fine! I wouldn't be comfortable without a video monitor though. She also was ok coming upstairs if she really needed something even in the dark. It is an adjustment but you will get used to it and it is not an issue.

When DD2 was born-8months, we were in a 3-story rental that had the master on the 3rd floor and the kids' rooms on the 1st floor. We moved DD2 to her room at 7 weeks, and it was fine. A bit of a pain to do 2 flights of stairs for MOTN, but not really a big issue. We just used a monitor in both girls' rooms so we could hear if either needed us.

Our master is on the main floor and both kids' bedrooms are upstairs. When we just had one, we moved upstairs to be next to his room. But with the second, we moved back downstairs. The toddler was upstairs (but he was consistently sleeping through the night) and the baby stayed in our room in a bassinet or pack 'n play until 6 months. Then he also moved upstairs. We have video monitors for both. It does suck if someone's sick and has multiple wake-ups because it's a bit of a trek to go up and down, but those are pretty rare.

We have a 2+2 format and dd1 is on a different floor since she moved to her big girl room at 2 years old. It hasn't been an issue at all. I cried the first night because she felt so far away, but honestly now it's a non issue. We will move dd2 once she is older so that she is on the same floor as dd1. A good video monitor helps.

We have our bedroom set up in our loft and kids in the bedrooms on the main floor. Everything's open so it's not exactly the same but it hasn't really been an issue as long as baby isn't up all night. Those nights he ends up in our room!

Is anyone else's master bedroom on a different floor than your kids, and any tips on how to deal with this? We are buying a new place which is a duplex (2 floor condo), and the master bedroom is on the main level, but the 2 kids rooms are in the lower level. We have a 16 month old, and another one due in early May (we'll be moving in April).

Right now, we are in a condo, so LO's room is right next to ours. It'll be tough to be so far away! We'll probably keep the newborn in our room for a few weeks, but then hopefully move him to his nursery.
