Practice squatting for as long as you can, that way you will be used to is and can use the position to push

Walk a lot

Use a birthball is good excercise. Just sitting on it helps

@PrincessBaby: can you eat 6 a day, or whatever they recommend? Too much sugar for me!!! I'm eating date bread now....google whole living's recipe. It's so amazing. I'll make some homemade larabars closer to delivery I think!

Dude- I am so on the dates! I am scheduled for an induction but I'd like to avoid it! And if I do end up getting induced, I don't want to be in labor forever!

I already had my baby, but i regret not doing a perineum massage (sheer laziness). While it may not prevent an episiotomy, i think it helps lessen the damage down there. My physiotherapist said i probably should have done it before my delivery.

http://www.babycenter.com/404_can-perineal-massage-help-me-avoid-an-episiotomy_1955.bc

ETA: not to be a downer, but exercise doesn't necessarily shorten labour. Paula Radcliffe, the famous Brit marathoner was in labour for 26 hours. Also, if you end up with a baby that's sunny side up (posterior position), labour will be LONG.

This is in "natural childbirth" but really I mean it for any kind. I wanted to see if we could put together a master list of *everything* and *anything* you could do to prepare yourself for labor. I am one of those people who likes to feel like I am doing something. And it will be nice to be able to think "okay, I've prepared for this!"

Please share! Bonus points if you can post an article to back yourself up!

I'll get started:

Eating dates helps avoid an induction.
Sleeping reduces chance of c section and reduc labor time.

http://www.fitpregnancy.com/labor-delivery/labor-delivery/three-surprising-tips-easier-labor

Brush and floss to prevent preterm labor (this one is not clear cut, but it can't hurt, right?

http://www.mchaccess.org/pdfs/alerts/oral%20health%20during%20pregnancy.pdf

Doulas reduce risk of all sorts of things:

http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=385782

Exercise might help shorten labor:

http://www.fitpregnancy.com/labor-delivery/all-exercise-labor-prep

I know there is no way to guarantee an easy birth, but it helps me to prepare! What are things you have heard/read/done?
