Small meals don't work for me. I don't buy that we're all 'supposed' to eat 4 or 5 small meals - I think that's just a fad. If you're eating an appropriate amount of calories, and it makes you feel good - go for it.

I've actually read that eating lots of small meals isn't good for you! I think you just have to do what works best for you.

To control portions I use smaller plates and for every meal except dinner I clean up quickly before I eat because having the food put away makes me less likely to go back for more.

Eat slowly. It takes a bit for satiety signals to catch up with what we've eaten. http://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/why-eating-slowly-may-help-you-feel-full-faster-20101019605

Honestly it really doesn't matter when you eat your food, for the most part. If that's what you prefer, do it. The jury's kind of out because there are people it works great for, and people it doesn't.

Lots of people do intermittent fasting, lose a ton of weight following their appropriate macros, and stuff their faces 1-2x/day per the schedule.

It's my husband's biggest struggle. He asks me to help him with it, so I'll tell him if he really needs to be done, but otherwise he has worked hard to take a break and wait at least five minutes (while not eating) after helping #1. If he's still hungry, he'll still take a second, but it's usually smaller than if he hadn't taken the break.

This is the one area where I could use the most improvement! I prefer to eat larger portions twice a day, rather than eat smaller portions three times a day (or five times a day, like they say you should). But that's not supposed to be good for you.

I drink a lot of water which helps fill me up - but still, for me nothing beats that feeling of being full after a meal. It's an addiction, and I would love to break it!

What are your tips and tricks for mastering portion control?
