Get thee to the doctor!
Sounds like a plugged duct which can turn to mastitis quickly.

Sounds like a plugged duct to me, which can turn into mastitis awful quick. We just did two days in the car driving to my inlaws over the weekend and DD went on a bit of a nursing strike - I noticed that my left boob was a bit lumpy on Saturday evening and by Sunday afternoon when we landed here it was full blown mastitis with red splotchy wedge marks and a fever of 102. Basically, you will feel very fluish - no energy, fever, chills, aches...trust me, you will know when you have it.

For me, mastitis made me very very ill. I had a high fever, extreme chills, and couldn't get off the couch. Dh had to practically carry me to the car to get me to the doctor. It came on very quickly, within an hour. Dr gave me some antibiotics and I kept pumping (I was an EPer) through which was so difficult. Then as quick as it came on, it went away and I felt better just that night.

Clogged ducts happened once or twice and were red and painful but nowhere near the intensity that mastitis was.

Hope you feel better soon!

@oscarthegoon: I was gonna post the exact same thing! Different positions and heat before nursing (I just used a warm washcloth) usually did the trick for me.

Hope it resolves quickly for you :goodluck:

sounds like a clogged duct that could lead to mastitis if not resolved. can you try nursing in different positions too? that can help because baby's jaw will hit different areas of the breast.

I noticed a lump and a red mark on my breast one morning. Took my temp and it was normal. Within 20 mins I had spiked a fever and felt like Id been hit by a truck. The red marks and fever I believe are diagnostic of Mastitis. Definitely keep taking your temp and call your Dr!

Hmm, I retract. I think more clogged duct. When I had mastitis twice, I felt like death--flu/cold like symptoms. I would still call tomorrow morning and see what the doctor says.

@shortcake: I could jump out of my skin when my boys even brush against my breast. Heat does make it feel better and so does nursing.

Sounds more like a clogged duct. Mastitis is typically hot, red and very sore (painful to the touch) breasts, with red streaks, chills, high fever and flu like symptoms.

@Mrs. J: no redness I have noticed. I also haven't noticed a fever. I have been feeling under the weather but I have a sinus thing going on.

It could be a plugged duct... when I had mastitis I had a high fever/chills/etc. My breast was also red in that area as well as extremely sore to the touch.

I always referred to this article when trying to figure out what I was dealing with: http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/mastitis/

Bees,
My right breast is extremely sore and has a hard lump that doesn't seem to leave after E nurses. The rest of my breast is soft but not that spot. I am using a heat pad and massage plus nursing often. I plan to call my ob/gyn in the morning but does this sound like mastitis to you?
