My sister and I both have names ending in the ie sound and it is fine. I don't mind it at all. My parents called me my sister's name and my sister my name but I don't think it was because of the names ending in the same sound... They swapped my brothers' names too and their names aren't alike.

I think that it's fine to have matching names, as long as you're picking the name because you love it, and not just because it matches your other child's name. If you love the name just as much, and it happens to match, awesome!

My sister and I both go by shortened forms of our full names and they both are five letter names with the consonant-vowel-con-con-y pattern, but we have different middle consonants so they're not rhyming. Does that make sense? Possibly not, but think something along the lines of Tilly and Penny.

Anyway, I personally think rhyming names can be a bit much, but I don't see anything wrong with names ending with the same sound! I also don't think it's required to have names that go together or match.

@T.H.O.U.: what style is your daughter's name?

I had a friend Lauren and her sister's name was Stephanie although we called her Stephie. Those were 80s name that went well together. Fresh Prince of Bel Air TV sisters were Ashley and Hillary, the IE sound on the end worked well since the two names had a different number of syllables.

My sister and I have names that end in "lene" and I think it's cute! It's never bothered me, in fact I was always kinda proud of it :)

I think as long as they "work" together it will be fine, ie or not! The 2nd suggestion I made in your other convo about it I think would sound SO good with your DD's name.

Personally i'm REALLY weird about having names end in IE sounds but one be Y and one IE. Like Rosie and Ashley. I like them to "match" more if they have the same sound. Or using Y's and I's, like I wouldn't like Jayme Smith but I do like Jamie Smith. I'm VERY weird and 100% aware :)

Both of my kids' names end in an "ie" sound. We didn't plan it; it just happened that way with the names we liked. I think it's nice, but not necessary. I feel liked their names kind of match, but I would have been just as happy if they didn't have similar sounds.

I like boys names for girls and wanted to name our 2nd Ezra or James (Or Jaymes). But we had a boy! :D

If we have another girl, they may possibly have matching initials. I don't think that matching sibling names are too bad, unless the names themselves are awful.

I don't think it's a big deal! My siblings and I, DHs siblings and him and all my nieces and nephews don't have matching ending to their names. Actually I can't think off the top of my head any families who have all matching names as far as endings.

My brother and I both have 3 syllable names that end in IE sound. He has always been called by his single syllable nickname.

My husband's sisters both have 2 syllable names that in N sound. The names are so different they do not sound like they rhyme.

I don't think the names necessarily have to go together in terms of sound. Names that are of a similiar style/ period/ or origin should work nicely together.

I don't think it's a big deal at all if it's the name you'd like. I think if you went with something like Charlie and Carly, that might get a bit too close for me. Our daughter's name is Zoey and one of our girl's names for a second child ends in an "ie" sound. I've also known quite a few people whose kids all either have an "ie" sound at the end of their name or at least have it at the end of their nicknames. I don't want to give out too many names since it'd be obvious who I was talking about but I could give you examples on your wall privately if you'd like. : )

My daughters name ends in an "ie". It sounds like maybe a nickname but she doesn't have a formal name. Think like Charlie or Jamie.

So, if we have another, particularly a daughter, should DD#2 have an "ie" ending name too? I feel like that gets matchy but I know families that do it (all three of my SIL's end with an "ie" sound).

It just seems to be hard finding names that go with my daughters since hers ends with an "ie" Any suggestions or examples would be great!
