@Bluebonnet: I have seen niece in both dresses (my SiL and MiL are actually the Hanna lovers in the family and the only reason the company is on my radar) and more casual leggings & tees outfits. The tricky thing about matching dresses (which feels more special for a gift) is that I don't put DD in dresses much at this age, so $20+ feels like a lot to pay for something that would hardly get worn. There do seem to be a few good coordinating options on the Tea website, if I can just find the right sizes in stock!

@lady baltimore: what kind of clothes does your niece usually wear? Can you identify her style? I tend to dress my LOs in simple prints and solids So, I'd vote for the dress. But maybe your niece prefers graphic tees and doesn't like dresses. If you find something that is a reflection of her style but also meets your criteria (matching option you like for LO), everyone will get a lot of wear out of your purchase.

@lady baltimore: I think the blue one is perfect! But I also think the origin one can work with leggings. My niece wears leggings under everything. It is our go to gift.

I don't have any Hanna clothes, but lo1 is tall and slebder for her size and I like a-line dresses for her and think they fit for a lot time (they just become tunics after a long time lol)

Tea, mini boden, and winter water factory are all good brands for finding matching clothes over baby/toddler/big girl sizes

Tea Collection has matching prints across toddler/girl sizes. They even offer the same prints in different cuts, which sometimes works nicely for my girls (9m, 3, and 5).

My oldest is very slim and getting leggy, and she can wear those Hanna "twirl" dresses if we size down! They're very cute on her as more of a tunic with leggings look (since sizing down to make them fit slimmer also makes them shorter). I intend to encourage her to wear more classic looks like this through elementary school (so 9-10 yrs old), but some girls may prefer a more mature/trendy style.

@Pollywog: I might have to get the dress for DD regardless!
My niece isn't especially tall, but she is slender. Do you think a style like one of these would work better?

I love the dress. It is so adorable! Is your niece tall and leggy? I am and my 8 year old niece is and that style wouldn't have worked on either of us at age 6. A more plump / stocky kid would look cute.

We are visiting DH's family at the end of the month, and celebrating our niece's 7th birthday while we are there. As part of her present, I would like to get niece and DD (19 mos) matching shirts or dresses (not necessarily for the party, but just for fun). She loved when they had matching jammies at Christmas.

Below are two items I've considered. The tee: SiL and BiL aren't into Star Wars like we are - is it still a good shirt? The dress: how does this style look on older kids?

(ETA: Here is the dress; I couldn't get a larger picture - http://www.hannaandersson.com/pdp.aspx?from=SC&pcid=1590&styleid=48276&simg=48276_GK3)

Any other suggestions for brands to look at? I'd lean feminist/messagey on the tees and utilitarian/play dress on dresses.
