My OB said it was up to me to decide if I wanted to regularly go to an MFM. She wasn't worried and the twins were growing well so I stayed with her (my OB). My twins were di/di and the doctors and we bought thought they were fraternal. Turns out they are identical! My ob could tell at 8 weeks that they were identical. My twins were identical mono-di so at risk for twin to twin transfusion so I went every 2 weeks and then every week once I hit about 32 weeks. My doc was kind of the catch all of the IVF twins from my specific RE- they were friends- so she is quite experienced. The only special thing I had for twins was a few extra ultrasounds. My doc didn't even make me come in extra! Twins are a high-risk pregnancy, particularly when they are assisted as in your case. Many OBs like to think that a twin pregnancy is not much different from a singleton but the reality is that the risks are higher and you need to be more closely monitored than if you were pregnancy with one. Like Twodoghouse mentioned, one of the appts was a special heart scan. If I remember correctly, they do them as a precaution in IVF pregnancies, which I was. I only saw an OB while I was pregnant. He did tell me at one point that I could have my scans a the MFM dr or continue to have them at my regular OB office. I mostly saw the OBs since I was required to be delivered by an OB in the OR at my hospital. I saw MFM once a month from 16 weeks-32 weeks with my IVF twins. They tracked my cervical length and checked on the babies' fluid each time. My sister (also IVF twins) only saw MFM twice - once for anatomy scan and once for a specific scan of their hearts (everything was fine, just a precaution). Both of our twins were di-di, which is the least complicated kind of twins, and neither of us had any major issues during pregnancy. Yes, my Dr did refer me to see a MFM for a couple appointmenst. If I remember correctly, I saw them 2-3 times throughout the pregnancy. They did some tests, in particular I remember them doing an in depth scan where they looked at the babies hearts.
