I went one size up because by the end, the swelling was brutal. Designer jeans run a bit smaller anyways. M

I wear designer non maternity jeans, though, and was super happy with gap long and lean maternity jeans. I actually wore a hole in them because they were my go to maternity jeans. They have so much stretch in them, they wear out faster, FYI

I had one designer pair in my size that was pretty tight but I sized up in another designer and those were way.too.big.

I didn't buy any nice jeans when I was pregnant, but I was between sizes and went a size up. They were full panel, and big-ish until almost 30 weeks...but then I was glad I went up!

I wanted to resurrect this thread in hopes that it can get some more responses!
I am a long ways away from needing maternity jeans, but jeans are my obsession. I have a borderline problem. So naturally I'm already plotting what to get!
In designer jeans (jbrand, Joes, AG, Citizens, etc) I am either a 27 or 28. Which way should I go? 28 usually fits best right after a wash but get a little baggy as I wear them. 27s I need to wiggle into a bit, but they "last" better as the day goes on.
Any additional thoughts? I'm thinking 28 is safest bet.

ETA: I know that everyone is different and you can't guess my size :-) But wondering about your own experiences.

@Vegmama: Yup, same here. I just bought my normal size. By the end of pregnancy, the one pair's panel was uncomfortable but the skinny jeans were sooooo comfy!

I like Old Navy's maternity pants (with the full panel), and I just wear my pre-pregnancy size. They are a little big, which is nice to give me room to grow into them.

I think it depends where you usually gain weight. I gain in my thighs/booty first, so I went up to a 10M from my pre preg size 8s.

My jeans are from Motherhood and I went with a size S instead of XS even though I think my pre-preg jean size was more on the XS side. The thighs on the the XS maternity jeans felt too tight to me. However, I always feel like my maternity jeans are slipping down so I don't know if I made the right choice!

I went a size up in all my maternity pants at about 14 weeks, but I gained weight all over before I really started gaining in my belly, and there was no way I was squeezing into my "regular" size. I think if your current size fits comfortably, go with that. The sad fact is that depending on how big you get, you may not be able to wear them your whole pregnancy, but better to look & feel your best now for the time being!

Ugh, I hated maternity jeans sizing. I could not find any that fit me really well and were the correct length, but I did wear the same size all through pregnancy. I made sure to get jeans with some stretch in them, and they fit fine after months.

I bought a pair of designer maternity jeans one size up on the advice of the salesperson... and never wore them. A month later I bought another pair in my usual size and wore them happily throughout my whole pregnancy. BUT I gained very little except in my midsection while pregnant, and most of my swelling was restricted to my calves, not thighs. I would buy your usual size and maybe buy fewer other spendy clothes with the idea that you may have to go a size up later?

I am so confused by maternity jeans/pants sizing. I bought one brand in a 28, loved them, they fit fabulously, so I bought another pair of the SAME brand, SAME 28 size and it was like, NOT happening and I couldn't even squeeze my thighs into 'em (there's an image for ya...). I don't get it. I have some maternity stuff in a small, and some in a large... Not helpful!

Pre pregnancy I'd always be on the border between M/L. I ended up buying all of my clothes in L and I'm glad I did because at 32 weeks they are still really comfortable (but I like having a bit of room!)

I don't know about designer pants per say, but I do have a pair of work pants from Target that are one size up from my normal size and they are too big for me. I'm 29 weeks and constantly hitching those pants up. I would stay with your size, especially if there's some stretch to the pants.

So, I think I found the brand/style of maternity jeans that will work for me. They are super spendy, but even not pregnant I tend to wear the same pair of jeans everyday...so it'll be worth it to be comfortable. But I have a question about sizing.

I'm 16w right now, and my regular jeans are just starting to get uncomfortable to button. I thought I might as well switch to maternity right now to take full advantage of them (since I find a band or button extender uncomfortable). A lot of what I've read suggests sizing up, but if I go one size up they feel a little loose (not falling down loose, just a little bit like they could slip). They are super stretchy (J-brand with side panels), so I'm thinking I may be better off staying with my current size.

Any thoughts? Experiences?
