@mrs. wagon: His boss is wonderful. For a while I actually thought about trying for a position at Hubs' company, but Hubs didn't want me to. He said that work wouldn't be much fun for me and that I'd get tired of dealing with customer issues. Oh well.

@yoursilverlining: I had a friend who sent me some links, and CA has 4 programs, 3 of which require a minimum number of employees. :-( I can qualify for disability when the time comes.

If you know you don't qualify for FMLA, make sure to check your state laws and see if your state has an FMLA type law that might cover you. Some state plans are more lenient on number of required employees in order to qualify for unpaid but legally protected leave of "x" amount of weeks.

That's so cool about your husband's boss! So nice to have such a supportive and understanding boss. I'm also going to be unpaid during my leave, as I'm a contractor, so we're trying to save and scrounge so I can be home for at least 6 weeks and probably closer to 8 weeks. My boss is expecting me back around 8 weeks, but is going to let me start at 3 days a week and then ramp back up to 4 days a week later on.

I used to work at a bridal salon too!! hehe. That will be a great way to lose the baby weight, lugging those dresses around!!

Have any of you been doing the retail thing when you needed to take maternity leave? I currently manage a bridal salon, and I know that we don't qualify for minimum FMLA laws because we have such a small staff. I know that my boss wants me back ASAP after we give birth (December) and that my leave will be completely unpaid as we don't get paid time off. We're saving now, and I know that Hubs' boss will give him at least one or two nice bonuses when we're off (really cool guy!).
Any thoughts? How did work and leave go for you?
