20 weeks: 7 weeks at 60% of my salary (ca std + company's coverage), 6 weeks at 55% of salary (fmla) and 7 weeks 100% covered (using all my pto!)

The hubs will be taking 1 month paternity leave once our guy is born. :)

I'm so grateful I'm able to take off 5 months with the little dude!

I'm eligible for FMLA (unpaid) up to 12 weeks. I am required to use up any PTO if i file for the FMLA. Fun to be a new mom in the USA isn't it!!

We don't get anything, and we don't even have short-term disability. And I'm full-time, salaried, benefits, etc.

So basically, I'll need to get a different job if we ever decide we want kids. :(

I feel fortunate to work for a public school system. I had six weeks of maternity leave time that was full pay and benefits using sick days. After that I had twelve weeks of FMLA time with benefits but no pay (I got reimbursed some money from the federal government) then I have the remainder of the school year (5 months since DD was born exactly at the start of the new school year) for child rearing with the option of a second year which I will take. Under child rearing they hold my job but no pay or benefits. So a total of two full years.

NZ std is 14 weeks paid leave (unless bed rest is required in which case you can go on short term sickness benefit). As a teacher, my school is required to hold my job for me for one year, I can request they hold it for two years and I get preferential employment for similar positions at the school for up to five years (this is obviously a little harder to police). I can also apply for a maternity grant once a baby is born, giving me an additional six weeks pay (bringing the total to 20 weeks paid). Not too shabby, although a year paid sounds amazing!

I'll get 52 weeks at 55% of my salary (thanks Canadian Government!) and my employer gives me 30 days full pay. It's not a great program - many employers top up to 75% or more but I'm not complaining.

So jealous of those with 52 weeks, paid! Goodness gracious!

At my current job, I would have my job guaranteed for 16 weeks because I live in TN. However, I would only have 2 weeks paid. I think they have some short term disability plan, but I'm not clear on the details. I hope to not be at this job when we have a LO.

My state does not require maternity leave and my company simply complies with the law :(

I will have to use PTO and Short Term Disability at reduced pay and FMLA for no pay, but hob security if I want to stay home longer.

I'm a teacher/librarian and I'm getting screwed a little bit, since I just moved states and left behind my massive accrued sick and personal leave from my old state. There, I would have had all 12 weeks of FMLA totally paid by using my accrued sick leave (I had something like 4 months of sick leave saved up at my old job). BUT in my old state (Texas), you are ONLY allowed the 12 weeks. Even if you have more leave saved up, you aren't allowed to use it (unless there's a medical reason).

Now that I'm in my first year in a new state (NJ), I'll only have FMLA, where I can take 12 weeks total which is technically unpaid (but with benefits), but where I can use as many accrued sick/personal leave days as I have to still retain the same pay. Sadly, I'll only have about 15 days from this school year and next school year combined paid. BOO. So the rest of the 12 weeks is unpaid.

The cool thing about my district in NJ, is that it's more mom-friendly if you have worked in this state a few years. If I want to take longer than 12 weeks, I can...in my school district, teachers can take up to a whole YEAR off and still have a job in their same school (may not be the same grade level or whatever, but you will have a job), BUT after FMLA you lose your insurance benefits and have to switch to cobra or personal insurance or a spouse's insurance. So that would be very expensive.

Teachers that have been here for a long time and have a lot of accrued personal leave tend to stay home for as long as they can---so longer than the 12 weeks is common. A lot even take the full year. But I'm probably going to have to go back right at 12 weeks, since we can't afford to lose my salary AND my insurance, which is pretty great insurance.

SAD FACE.
