@Meggo5: Can your wedding photographer recommend anyone? That's where I found mine. Maybe the prices were more reasonable for me because I was a referral from my wedding photog?

@Jholler25: I know, right?! I was stunned to say the least. I'm sure I have been looking in the wrong places with the wrong search criteria There's got to be something more sensible out there!

Um, that is nutso, and we live in Fort Lauderdale/Miami area where I feel like everything is over-priced! I bought a package for $400 that included my maternity shoot and the newborn pics. She had the option of a CD for $200 but I passed.

Wow, I am so happy to hear that these prices are absurd! Granted, we live in a major metro area, but I could not even begin to wrap my head around considering that kind of price tag.

@Lawbee11: Great suggestion on the Groupon/Livingsocial idea-- I will check to see if there's anything out there :)

I have a friend that is a professional and she charges $350. She ended up doing mine as my baby gift, but if she couldn't do it I was researching other photographers also in the $350 range. It's still a lot of money, but everyone tells me if they didn't get it, they regretted it!

I would never pay $2K for maternity photos unless I just had tons of cash lying around (which I don't!).

I think for a one-hour casual session, $500 is reasonable. Maybe a little more if the photog is just amazing.

Are you in an area that has Groupon or LivingSocial? They often have photography packages that are very reasonably priced! That's how we found our wedding photographer--she was just starting out as a photographer, and she ended up doing an amazing job!!

what?!?! I have never seen any photography other than weddings 2k+!!!

I was going to say expect about $500 - possibly more. But I wouldn't pay even 1k!

@Sammyfab: Looks like ours are really similarly priced! Our 2 photoshoots together run $750, but don't have the birth announcement option.

Yikes! $2k for just maternity pics!?!? That's absurd.

We paid $775 for our belly and baby package that included 2 photoshoots, 2 DVDs of edited images and either 75 birth announcements or an 11x14 canvas.

My photographer (same person we used for our wedding) is charging $350 for the maternity session and a disc of all edited images with printing rights. Finding someone who will include a disc of images included in the price has been really difficult to find. Most will give you a disk of maybe 5-10 images, but I'd like the whole session on there (~100 pictures). She did a great job at our wedding and I'm looking forward to working with her again for maternity. She's also doing our newborn pictures at our home for $400.

I have been playing with the idea of having some maternity pictures taken and have been somewhat shocked by the price tag! I understand that professional photography can be pricey (often, you get what you pay for) but I am somewhat stunned with the quotes I have received.

If you don't mind my asking, what do you think is "reasonable" for a casual maternity photo session? Also, please let me know if you have any suggestions for a less expensive alternative! I would really like to have this memory as something to look back on, but I cannot even fathom paying upwards of $2k for this!
