My ped said 18-24 oz which I thought was crazy high but sometimes she's at about 20 oz. doesn't interfere with her food intake at all. She drinks almond milk mostly.

Our doc at 18 months I think said 18.

I think at age 2 it's 12-15?

But I have read you should offer it with meals because it helps with iron absorption (though, my son prefers water at meals and milk when he wakes up in the morning and after nap).

My ped (Tribeca pediatrics) said max 16 oz a day but they kind of follow the mantra of let your kids eat whatever you eat from a very young age.

DS is an almond milk lover. Pedi at 15 month chck told us that average for that age was 12-16 oz... he was taking 30!

At 18.5 months we've scaled back to 16-18 oz. It also doesn't affect his food intake so we're just goign with it.

@swurlygurl: so I think that's like 16oz? sounds about right!

@septca: I like the cup we have bc it's insulated so we can take it out and about, but I can definitely just try filling it up less. Luckily LO is pretty good about water too.

I am wondering this too. Asking our pedi next week. R will drink milk all day long if we let. We don't give it till after meals cause otherwise she fills up on it.

@hilsy85: Maybe you can get a smaller cup or only fill it 1/2 way? That way if he asks for more, you can give more, but only a small amount more?

DD usually has water and milk on her high chair with meals. She only drinks about 10 ounces a day of WCM, but will gulp water like she's been in the desert for a week.

My ped said 2 cups. Two ACTUAL cups of measurement, or two sippy cups (which vary greatly in size?!), I don't know...

After watching my SIL struggle with limiting her kids' milk intake (they would drink a gallon a day if allowed), I only ever offer milk for naps and bedtime. 1 sippy for each. Hopefully I don't have to deal with her begging me for milk during the day - I'm too much of a softie!

@septca: @brownie: good to know! I just realized his foo go cup is 10oz and he goes through about 2 of those a day, sometimes a little more! I'll have to try to cut back.

My kid's gastro said 18 oz but that was because it wasn't as much iron. She then asked if he eats meat and I said yes. Then asked what kind and I said everything. So she wasn't as concerned. I know that isn't the best answer but that is what I heard. Now that he isn't home with me all the time, he isn't getting more than 18 oz a day.

Our ped says no more than 16-20 ounces per day. It has to do with iron displacement, I think.

So Lo has gone from hating WCM to LOVING it. He used to only have maybe 1-2 sips, and now drinks two or more big cups a day. I didn't ask the pedi about it at his 18 month appt, because this change has really only happened in the last few weeks, but is there a max amount of milk that a toddler should be drinking? I don't want it to interfere with his food consumption (I try not to give milk during meals but he asks for it a lot).
