I drank a lot of water and I pumped after every feeding and a few extra sessions for the first 6 weeks.

My supply has always been great (LO is 5.5 months) and I think a lot of it has to do with the amount of water I drink. I still drink out of my plastic straw jug from the hospital (they gave me 3!). I also fill it before I go to bed and drink before and after each MOTN nursing session. I'm guessing I drink 80+ oz a day. I don't take any supplements.

I never pumped after feedings and my supply has been fine- almost six months now. But Lo has always wanted to eat very frequently and used to cluster feed like crazy in the evening early on, so I'm guessing that helped?

I wanted to avoid getting into the habit of pumping a lot bc I didn't want to promote an over supply- sahm so a small freezer stash is plenty.

Feed on demand and between 12 and 6am, eat plenty of good calories and drink lots of water (but not so much that you're drowning in it!), some parties will recommend that you don't encourage STTN too early so that LO isn't going long stretches without nursing.

You could also try drinking lactation tea, eating oats and lactation cookies (yum!)

Aim for 10-12 nursing sessions within 24 hours and cluster feeding and comfort nursing will help too.

If you want to promote an oversupply to create a freezer stash, I would recommend pumping after your LO has gone down for her longest sleep stretch. You don't have to do it every day, but doing it occasionally in the early days should help trick your body into making more. Good luck!

LO is 6 days old and we are EBF. I am planning on EBF as long as I possibly can. With DD#1, my supply tanked at around 4 months and we battled it out, trying to pump to increase my supply and it didn't work, leaving a very unhappy mama and baby. I am on maternity leave for a year so I don't have to worry about building a freezer stash but I may want to just in case my supply does drop again. Currently, we are feeding about every 2-2.5 hours and LO is gaining weight nicely. Does anyone recommend pumping after feeds?

What worked for you?
