I voted 2. On average it is probably a little less than that though. She is rarely in her car seat (we live in NYC and don't own a car), the walk to the nanny share is 15 minutes, and then the nanny takes her out to the playground or the Y. It would probably be more like an hour but because LO is not the best sleeper, sometimes the nanny lets her sleep in the stroller so that she gets a nap during the day.

2-3 hours on weekdays. Maybe 1 on a typical weekend day. That includes walking time when she is in the stroller and driving when she is in the carseat.

S loves her carseat. She's insanse - as soon as we start backing out of the driveway she is OUT. We have a travel system, so we just plop the carseat on her stroller & she will sleep/hang out in there as long as we're out. I think 4-5 hours is the longest I'd keep her in there total in a day. We take her out for little breaks or to feed her if we're out all day.

i voted 2 hrs a day. i think it is more of an issue if they are strapped in for long hours at a time, versus split up over the day. what i like to do is, for instance, my DD is up 2 hrs in between naps, so for at least half the time she is awake i like to give her some floor/play/rolling/activity time and the other half we go for walks, go to the park in carrier, run errands, etc.

I voted less then an hour since we don't go anywhere unless we have to since she hates the car seat. I can't take the crying.

@Beebug: I'd just put her seat in a bit of a recline, if you can. The issue is airway compression, but at 6 months, it's not as critical as it is at 2.

@looch: LO is 6m and would go crazy if she had to lay flat! We have a bob, no bassinette option and she has outgrown infant seat/adapter and is in regular harness! She enjoys playing and hanging out in there.

How old is your LO? Until they are sitting unassisted, the best position is for them to be lying flat, is that an option for part of the time...do you have a basinett for your stroller?

Okay I voted 4 but that is once a week when we go to the city (30 min drive) and she stays in her stroller/high chair/carrier. On a typical day it's about an hour. We mostly play at home or the park. She can't walk yet so I think once she's moving it will be less time.

I don't really feel bad about him being in the stroller, he loves to look around and I talk to him, and he sleeps well in there. I do feel bad when he's in the coarsest tho, it seems much less comfortable ad much hotter. He's probably strapped in somewhere 2 hours or so a day, including stroller, carrier, and jumperoo time.

@googly-eyes: edited to day day after day, in a typical week, not "just" an outing (family event, zoo, etc!) Good call on the question :)

@meredithNYC: Also a good call, I find in my stroller fit classes when I stop moving now, she gets fussy, so I have to keep moving! She is 6m now, and I suppose she is going to get more and more mobile as time goes :)

I think it depends on how old your LO is? Up until mine became mobile, she would have happily spent several hours a day in the stroller and she did, since we lived in the city at the time and the stroller was a huge part of our every day routine. But when she started crawling, I found it was much tougher to keep her interest in the stroller and she would get squirmy and whiny after maybe 45 minutes or so.

I voted 2 hours but that's for daily use. LO has spent more time in a day like on family outings. We do try to interact with we as much as possible when were on outings though. We carry her part of the time and talk to her etc.

How much time total per day is your maximum that you're okay with your LO being strapped in? This would be day after day in a typical week! Stroller time, car seat time, etc.

I don't know if there is a recco'd amount (surely there is a a bazillion opinions scientific or not to lead to many different answers!) but some days I feel bad for putting my LO in the stroller + car so much, so wanted to ask.

We are usually out at least twice, sometimes 3x a day to walk the dog. I definitely use the carrier in the mix too, but definitely the stroller more. On top of that I am now running with her, and so on top of the dog walks, she and I are going out for runs. I am out at least an hour, up to two hours (definitely not running the whole time, ha! Walk breaks for me :) ) but yesterday I was out for a solid two hours after running, warm-up, cool-out, running into a few people and chatting, etc. So on top of the walks and if I am going to get out running more regularly now (yay getting in shape, plus nicer weather!). She is totally happy in there, plays, chills out, naps, etc, and if she's ever not happy I bring her out on my hip, into the carrier, or whatever she needs to be happy :)

So! What's the most time added up in a day you would have your LO strapped in?
