Just chiming in to say any food is greatly appreciated!

To piggyback off previous pasta salad / bean salad suggestions, I always take this simple southwestern bean salad to potlucks and purple love it:

Black beans
Corn
Tomatoes
Red onions/scallions
Bell peppers
Avocados
Tortilla strips
Cilantro
Lime juice/olive oil dressing

This would go well with sourdough bread.

I remember my doula brought me a bag of Dunkin Donuts muffins when she came to visit and those muffins tasted like heaven. So I'm also seconding the idea of banana bread as muffins.

Homemade granola, trail mix, roasted/candied nuts, all those are easy to grab and good for breastfeeding too.

I'd do the banana bread as muffins for easy snacks/breakfast. And pair the bread with a big salad/veggie tray, grilled and sliced chicken, and prepped fruit. Or sourdough with a cheesy baked pasta dish and a fruit and veggie tray. The most popular thing I've ever given was a bag of their kids' favorite snacks. Cheese sticks, clementines, pouches, mini bags of pirate booty....

@Mommy Finger: we didn’t get many meals post baby but one friend stopped by with crusty French bread, a bagged salad mix, and a rotisserie chicken. That’s one my fave meals anyway and it was much appreciated! You could do fruit to go with the banana bread for snack/breakfast.

Bryant Terry's texas caviar on toast is fantastic. I make it at least once a month in the summer and even my carnivore Dad loves it. Similar to pasta salad, but black eyed peas instead of pasta and lots of fresh veggies, which I craved postpartum, mostly because I didn't have time or energy to cook them and most things that got dropped off were casserole type things.

@catgirl: @Lahela017: Good call on pasta salad and I'm pretty sure I have tortellini still in the freezer from when my kids all of a sudden decided they didn't want to eat it for every meal anymore. And A+ on fruit. I know the family loves a good charcuterie board so just a bunch of meats and cheeses to have on hand works too.

Thanks!

To go with the bread, maybe a hearty pasta salad made with tortellini?

My favorite meal to make for new parents is twice baked chicken Caesar potatoes. They reheat well, freeze well, and are pretty kid friendly. I either give microwave veggies or a salad with them. But they don’t really go with bread.

https://www.paleorunningmomma.com/chicken-caesar-twice-baked-potatoes-paleo-whole30/

I also love to give a big bowl of cut up fruit, especially in the summer. Everyone is more likely to eat fruit when it’s already cut for them!

My neighbor is about to have her 3rd baby in about a week and a half and I want to bring over dinner or something. I have gotten into baking during quarantine so I was definitely going to bake them some sourdough but am having a hard time coming up with something that would go with it. I keep going to a soup but it's HOT here so that's not going to work. So not sure if there is anything that actually goes with it or if it's best to come up with another meal and tack on the bread on the side. I mean, who doesn't love bread? I'm also baking them some of my banana bread b/c they have loved that in the past.

So would love some ideas for what you've have really enjoyed giving or receiving in the past. The other kids are 5 and 6 and there are no other allergies to consider other than the normal breastfeeding considerations.
