@Arden: what a great pancake idea! I just made her banana and egg pancakes for the first time last week and she loved it. I gotta try adding veggies in it next time!

I also make her "pancakes" every day with one egg mixed with a banana and some sort of veggie purée (like carrot or pumpkin or sweet potato). I just stir it up and fry it like a thin pancake or crepe, and she loves it. It's an easy way to get protien, fat, and a fruit + a vegetable all at once!

Vi's 9 months and loves beans of all kinds, just plain or sometimes sprinkled with a touch of garlic powder. Garbonzo beans, black beans, kidney beans... she gobbles them up!

In the beginning when I was nervous about choking I would squish them with my fingers to make them flat. I don't bother anymore though because she's very good about chewing her food.

@cmomma17: The muffins sound like a great idea! I'll have to make those. Thanks!

@Silva: We're doing finger foods for the most part, with some purées here and there. He eats just about everything I give him (but asparagus...he wasn't a fan at all!). I'm hesitant to give him everything we eat without giving him each ingredient separately first. I've been pretty cautious about allergies which makes things a little more complicated!

@jodyblair: weelicious had some mini muffin recipes on her blog. you could do them with different fruits or veggies and probably tweak the recipe to handle the allergies. make a big batch and freeze them. would be a great 'on the go' snack

instead of regular puffs I buy puffed kamut. its a whole grain, and she loves it. beans are good too. are you doing purees or finger foods? we've been doing exclusively finger foods since about 7.5 months and my 9 month old will eat just about anything. We just give her what we are eating.
She went bananas for spaghetti with homemade tomato sauce and meatballs two nights ago.

@scg00387: How have I never heard of this? Looks like a great resource. Thanks!
@septca: @beaker: Cheerios!!! I bet he would love them.
@Smurfette: Whenever I try giving him food straight from a pouch, he gets so excited and squeezes a ton of food out. We need some practice with that :) I wish we could do cheese and yogurt, especially since he could use the extra fats. As soon as he can tolerate dairy, I'll be sure to try those.

For out and about, what about Kix, cheerios, torn up pita bread or bagels (or just give him a whole bagel and let him work on it).

ideas for home... Homemade popsicles with frozen fruit, applesauce, baked beans (messy!), rice with some kind of curry or sauce so you can form it into balls (easy to pick up), small pasta shapes with sauce (messy again!)

Cheerios. I actually think they do have nutritional value.

My DD loves beans (especially black beans), all types of fruit and vegetables, hummus.

Can you give him a veggie/fruit pouch while out? Cheese or yogurt for a snack. Natural applesauce (one of R's favorites)

R gets puffs, Mum Mums, Gerber "cookies" for a snack at day care. But I want something light since I just want to tide her over till we get home for dinner. Once it gets warmer, I will try more fruit with her, but so far she doesn't like any of it.

My 9 month old has recently started eating 3 meals a day and seems hungry for a snack when he wakes up from his afternoon nap. I feel like I am feeding him the same things over and over and need some ideas and suggestions for new foods to give him. He's eating mostly finger foods with purées maybe once or twice a day and he has MSPI so no dairy products and most pre packaged foods are out too. So far his favorites are blueberries, bananas, pears, broccoli, green beans, squash, ground turkey and chunks of chicken. He also likes puffs but I try to limit those since they have next to no nutritional value. Any ideas? Bonus points for healthy snack ideas that I can give him while out and about (ie minimal mess).
