That's a great heartbeat! If it was like 70 or something it would be concerning. But a HB that high is a really good sign I think.

My completely healthy 3 month old measured about a week early at the 8 week and 12 week scans though my ob kept her due date based on lmp. I had regular 27-29 day cycles but think I ovulated late. She was actually born late, so closer to due date based on those scans than lmp, so maybe she wasn't really late! ;)

I apologize, I have not read every comment.

With DD1, I was very very certain when I got pregnant. I was traveling a LOT for work and only got frisky with DH one time in the feasible window (2 weeks). I tested positive on what was about 13 days after DTD.

My Dr's office did not see me until I was (per my calculation based on LMP) about 7w1d. They did an ultrasound and concluded I was 6w1d - I was concerned. I pretty much went on my whole pregnancy not believing them.

DD1 was born 2 days after her adjusted due date, at a very normal size. :) She's now a healthy happy albeit slightly crazy 3.5 year old!

Great update, I hope things continue to move along for you! I just had my 2nd baby and at the first appointment they said I was measuring behind as well. I was very sure of my ovulation date but they moved me back 5 days anyway. I honestly didn't think much of it at the time. Funny enough when I went to deliver I thought I was 39 weeks but my chart said 39 and 5, so clearly my doctor didn't think enough of it to move my due date officially.

I think it truthfully can go either way and only time will tell which is so hard. Even the doctors don't really know!

I've always measured behind lmp because I have longer cycles. So that in itself is not a big worry to me since you don't know when you ovulated.

My daughter measured about 10 days behind on our first scan around 7w, I thought it should be like 5 based on ovulation. MFM doc said 50/50. But she caught up by the check two weeks later and that was that. I think the earlier it is, the more likely it is that it doesn't matter.

My last pregnancy I measured about 3 days behind where I thought I should be based on ovulation, scan at 8w. I did lose that pregnancy for genetic issues but I really don't know if the measuring was indicative. My ob was not worried about it at the time.

Sending you many hugs while you wait :heart:

@mrskansas: @Rocker2014: @ShootingStar: @periwinklebee: @PawPrints: @2PeasinaPod: @2littlepumpkins: @T.H.O.U.: @Shantuck: @Annette: thanks ladies- this helps a lot!

.@mrskansas: My first positive was at 5 weeks pregnant based on LMP. That doesn't help much I know. I'm not an early tester and usually test as late as possible. But I'm pretty sure I didn't ovulate SUPER late.. but this is based on my memory of how I felt and the likelihood of pregnancy based on when we Dtd.

Now that I've thought about it and read your responses I think what now concerns me is not the dates. it was only 5 days earlier than my LMP date- and I definitely could have ovulated late AND as you all mentioned it's prob not super accurate. But what does concern me is the feeling I got from the OB and what she chose to say to me. I've never seen her before so maybe she is always like this. Or maybe she saw something that she didn't want to tell me- the only thing I can think of is a low heart rate. OR.. maybe she's just being her? Or maybe she was surprised because *she* was wrong (her guess was wrong) so she acted a little funny? Ugh who knows.

I doubt the heart rate info will be available but I guess I could try emailing her.

I had an untrasound at what I thought was just past 8 weeks and I was measuring 5 days behind. I was so worried and nervous for the same reasons you were but I think either I ovulated later than I thought or implantation took longer because I am now 12 weeks and saw a health bub last week on our NT scan. The good news is that you did see a heartbeat which is huge! The risk of something bad happening declines quite a bit once the heartbeat is seen on an ultrasound and when you are very early sometimes the rate of the heartbeat doesn't mean much either (my current pregnancy was just over 100 which was a another reason I was totally freaked out.) Wishing you the best and keep us posted :)

I had a similar first appointment. I had just gotten pregnant after two consecutive losses so was admittedly on edge when I went in for my first appointment/ultrasound. I had been tracking my BBT and my ovulation date (I think it was around CD 20) had been clear on my chart to both my acupuncturist and I. The first ultrasound showed me measuring 5 days behind my calculated date and way behind my LMP date. They also saw a subchorionic hematoma and I had to sit there and listen to one of the OB's go on about how there was a 50/50 chance that this pregnancy would be a good one. I really don't think she bought my calculated ovulation date so she thought I was measuring 2+ weeks small. Apparently, those early ultrasounds are only accurate give or take 5 days. I came back the next week for another ultrasound and saw another doctor and she claimed that I must have miscalculated because the baby was showing the proper amount of growth relative to the first ultrasound. However, if their date was right, then I would have had a positive HPT something like 4 days after I ovulated, which wouldn't have made sense. Anyway, to make a long story short, that 50/50 pregnancy is now an adorable 6 month old baby girl and I suspect that for some reason she was just a slow starter but everything went on to be fine and she was/is perfectly healthy. Can you see if they will see you after one week instead of two? It was reassuring to see that there had been a week's worth of growth and it might be less agonizing to get in sooner. Hang in there and good luck! :goodluck:

As much as you can keep repeating those phrases! Losses are so hard and they impact you forever. It sounds like the OB was just be overly cautious when most likely dates were just slightly off.

My old OB used to say you just never can tell in early pregnancy. With my last pregnancy it took a few scans to get a heartbeat after some bleeding and we were both surprised but my son is now 1.5. I'm now measuring a couple days behind but also don't know when I ovulated so it's probably ok although I wish she told me the hb! Just have to take it one day at a time, unfortunately. Sending hugs!! Hope your next scan is reassuring.

@mrskansas: Totally agree!

Call and ask if she can give you the heart rate that she tracked. Hopefully she has it. I had 4 miscarriages, so I understand your hesitation and uneasiness in the first trimester. I'll be praying that your cycle is just off this time around and you have a happy and healthy 9 months.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I am also very sorry to say that I think your fears are valid. It seems most likely that the heartrate was low - that's the only reason the doc would refuse to tell you. Certainly there's a good chance things will be fine but it does sound to me like there is cause for concern. I do wish doctors would abandon this infantilizing approach to their patients - it doesn't do you any good for them to withhold important information from you. Fingers crossed everything is fine.

:heart: I'm sorry for the uncertainty. It seems plausible that you ovulated late. I wouldn't read too much into the doctor's behavior, for them it's all in a day's work and maybe she was just tired or thinking about something else. I personally would want to know what the heart rate was - are you able to see your ultrasound report, or ask for it?

Sorry you're dealing with this!

At the time I was pregnant, I didn't know enough to be worried about this but at my first two OB appointments the midwife and doctor suggested that the baby was measuring more than 10 days behind than the date that was 100% sure I conceived (a lot of traveling that month, only one opportunity!). We actually had a bit of an argument about conception and EDD and I came in at 6, 8 and 10 weeks for ultrasounds. Looking back, I realize now that this could have had a bad outcome, but LO is now a healthy 2.5 years old so all was well. Wishing the same positive outcome for you!

I had my first prenatal appt yesterday. According to my LMP I was 7w1d. My last cycle was 40-ish days long. (I had weaned my daughter and my periods were returning but not regulated). But I had assumed just based on feelings of ovulation (didn't actually track) I was back to a more normal cycle.

My OB felt my uterus and commented that it's bigger than she thought and maybe I'm further along than I thought.

She did a transvaginal ultrasound and baby was smaller than she thought measuring 6w3d. She also detected a heartbeat but didn't disclose how fast or slow it was.

Side note.. my first two pregnancies ended in miscarriage so I am super sensitive and prone to worry in my first trimester. My last two pregnancies ended in my son and daughter but i am still anxious!

Anyway my OB stared at the screen for awhile.. then she said she wanted to see me in a couple weeks because I'm not as further along than we all thought. She mentioned she wants to make sure the baby is growing. She also mentioned that I still have risk of miscarriage. When I pressed her further she said "I am not going to give you reasons for you to worry."

She didn't want me to get blood work done or anything but she seemed off to me?? Maybe I'm being paranoid and she's being cautious.

i left the appointment with a bad feeling. Am I overreacting? It's definitely possible I ovulated later than I thought. also my other children I remember measured a fewdays smaller at their early ultrasounds too. But just the exchange with this OB and her reaction just worries me. I know if baby measures small it could mean things are not developing correctly.

Am I crazy or valid? Please share your honest stories/thoughts.
