I think trying to get an appointment with another dr at the practice to discuss your concerns is a good idea. Two weeks is a long time to wait, especially as they're not planning to do another u/s!

I was consistently measuring 7-9 days behind in early pregnancy. I had already had 3 miscarriages. My OB was very sympathetic and I had multiple u/s in the beginning. Eventually, LO caught up and he's a healthy 10 month old now! The dr said early measurements are frequently off and the heartbeat is the most important thing.

Fingers crossed that your LO is right where he/she's supposed to be at your next appointment!

My outcome wasn't great. I measured a week behind with a low HB (<100). I ended up miscarrying that pregnancy.

I hope that's not what's happening with you, I would definitely push for an u/a sooner though. Just for peace of mind!

Just FYI, that happened to me w/DD- I measured a couple of weeks behind at my early ultrasound, but my doc has you come back in 2 weeks later to confirm that the baby is growing and date it again to be sure. He was also really reassuring that it's not uncommon to measure a week or so off...who knows how accurate they really are at guessing, plus everyone is different. I do agree that another US is in order and I hope they don't give you trouble about it!

@SweetiePie: I agree! My doctor gave me weekly ultrasounds in the beginning bc I was a mess since I had spotting and a prev miscarriage. There's no reason for me to see a doctor who isn't sensitive to their patients anxiety

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Definitely push them for another! I personally would insist on another in a week. That is enough time to determine if appropriate growth is happening. If they deny you, it's time to look for a new practice in my opinion.
I've been through that situation twice and if my doc can't put me at ease by doing a few extra ultrasounds, then they aren't the doctor for me.
Really hoping and praying for the best news for you and that the growth thing was a fluke! Xoxo

agree with everyone about the 2nd ultrasound. that's what I got when my first ultrasound at 8wks measured behind (but it was with an MFM due to repeat loss so I had a different situation)

I was 8w LMP but I knew I ovulated 4-5 days behind the CD14 assumption. I measured 6w4d-6w5d which made them pretty nervous, but had a good hb of 143 (not audible, they measured it on the screen somehow, everything was SO tiny). by my follow up I measured right on track (9w1d exactly 2 weeks later) with what I thought based on ovulation. so there's definitely a margin of error, but they should absolutely follow up and see where it goes.

eta: LO is 2 now and I had a healthy pregnancy from then on.

wishing good things for you

I would ask for another scan in two weeks. I was measuring 1 week behind, had a hb, and had a bad feeling about it. I m/c at 12 weeks, 3 days shy of my next scan. I really wish I had asked for another scan in between!

My dr said that one week is the time frame they are comfortable with...two weeks is a LOT. I would definitely bug them.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Thank you! The original one I was talking about was my first loss. I recently had another loss in September, but we knew immediately that there wasn't much there.

I'm very much hoping that you just ovulated late and you're a little behind, but definitely ask for another U/S!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: That's incredibly frustrating. Even with a transvaginal U/S, they should be able to measure heart rate. And they need to see you sooner than 4 weeks. Definitely give a call next week to see if you can get in any earlier with a different doctor. I would just let them know that you're extremely concerned that you were measuring 2 weeks behind.

Are there other doctors in the same practice you can ask for a second opinion from?

My SIL warned me about one doctor in the practice I use, but you have to cycle through all of them so I saw her early after our BFP. At my first ultrasound there was no heartbeat and I was measuring a few weeks behind. The doctor was very dry, business as usual, and didn't do much to answer questions or ease our concerns. She told me to follow up in 15 days with an U/S.

I knew something wasn't right so I made an appointment with another doctor in the same practice (I talked to the on call nurse about what I thought was wrong and they scheduled me with someone the next day). The new doctor said 15 days of waiting was too much to expect me to go through and ordered blood tests and a follow up U/S in 6 days.

Overall I LOVE my practice, but if I can help it, I will never see that one doctor ever again.

I thought I was 9 weeks based on lmp when I initially went in, and ended up measuring 5. The doctor and nurse both were positive I was miscarrying, even though I reiterated my cycles haven't ever been regular. We got another u/s to check dating three weeks later, but they tested my hcg levels between the two for reassurance that I was actually pregnant and professing as needed.

Two months waiting definitely sounds unusual, I would push for another or as you said, find another doctor. I know how frustrating finding out you're that much earlier is, sorry you're going through it!

When I went for one of my last appointments they couldn't find a HB with the doppler and I was nearly 13 weeks. Pretty scary, but without me even asking they rolled in the ultrasound machine and baby looked fine and they got a HB that way. Maybe you can just request that they do that at your next appointment just so you have peace of mind? They hear the HB and you see baby, so win win for all.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: Yeah I would push for another appointment, or even call another OB for a second opinion if your doctor won't listen to your concerns. If you got a positive pregnancy test on 2/18 maybe MAYBE you were only 3 week then, but even that would put you at over 7 weeks now, so something isn't adding up right to me. I think a lot of times doctors just assume that women won't know how to calculate the timing properly, but obviously you know exactly how far along you should be. I'm sorry you're dealing with this : (

@locavore_mama: I think I might jump ship to get another u/s...the fact that they didn't even offer one really frustrates me! Like, all they seem to care about is....business as usual, following the pre-determined schedule. And I was frustrated about the bleeding question, as if all women who m/c bleed as soon as the loss happens. Annoying.
