I didn't get a line - I didn't get a linea nigra either (or stretch marks), maybe it's just my skin?

I vaguely remember my MW asking my doula if she could see the line- but I had no idea what she was talking about until now! Very cool (no line for me, I don't think).

When I saw the post I realized I read this just before labor. Sadly, I totally forgot to have anyone look. Probably better that way as it took me days to get anywhere.

I actually heard about this while I was pregnant but when I tried to look, I realized I couldn't bend that way at 39ws hehe and DH was not helpful!

@Foodnerd81: As huge as I was (or atleast felt) I couldn't imagine trying to see myself! lol.... same with self checks, how is that even possible?! lol

@Mrs. Jacks: I think the things listed on the blog post are pretty universal, but yea that'd be awesome if we all got a line! Seems the majority still did though. Definitely a pretty fascinating occurrence!

I had red about this before, so while I was in labor I tried to look in the mirror to see if I could see anything! But I really didn't remember exactly what I was looking for and I was really in active labor I wasn't standing twisted around in front of the mirror.

They only did two checks on me- when I arrived at the hospital, and when I asked for an epidural-- they checked and told me I was already 9 cm so we opted against it then.

Wow that is definitely interesting! I might have to ask my MW if she had done this before.

My MW posted an article about the "purple line" being used as a low tech, no risk way to follow a laboring moms progression and I found it really interesting so I thought I'd share!
http://www.scienceandsensibility.org/?p=5547&cpage=1

Also here was another great blog post that mentions it (along with other great ways to "measure" labor progression).
http://sarahvine.wordpress.com/2010/03/07/how-dilated-am-i-assessing-dilation-without-an-internal-exam/

And for *personal* experience, when I was relaying the info to DH he immediately cut me off & said "OH YEA, you totally had that! It was purplish-red". Kinda neat!
