Our kids never did the straight meat baby foods, but they did enjoy the pouches where it was a meat, veg, and starch all mushed up into a smoother puree. It wasnt completely smooth and watery like stage 1 and 2, but it was pretty smooth - just a little thicker. Their favorites were:

- chicken with quinoa and veggies
- chicken with corn and sweet potatoes

Based on that, I would sometimes make my own variations in the blender. Some leftover rice, meat, pumpkin, coconut cream blended together like "curry" with a pinch of cinnamon was one they liked.

If you're child is struggling with purees in the general, I might just do fruit and veg for the time being and once they are able to take a little more texture, mix in some things with the meat. I find the baby food meat to be pretty tasteless, but pasty in texture, so that might be what he has a problem with.

@MrsSCB: This! I would mix it with other things and start with a really small ratio and go up from there.

I know you said you tried mixing with other flavors, but what ratio did you mix? Would doing maybe 3/4 of a veggie and 1/4 of the meat work? You might be able to build up from there. Once he gets better at solid foods, I also did a lot of mixing in purees with pasta, sort of like pasta sauce. I like the idea of offering a swap on a local page as well!

I never gave it to my son, but my mom used to spread some on bread for my sister like a sandwich. She wouldn’t eat any baby food otherwise!

I would just stop giving it and get other types of baby food. Pureed meat sounds disgusting to me and I never gave it to my daughter. We didn't do meat for awhile with her, it's not necessary.

I agree to mix with fruit purees while you're in the puree stage. But as he gets more comfortable with solids, you can try to use it as a "sauce" for pasta. Both my kids at that age did really well with some ditalini pasta with any random puree as a sauce, with some grated parmesan cheese to make it easier to pick up.

I always mixed it with other purees, but not one to one. At most, I'd do half a jar of the meat with a full 2.5-3oz fruit and veggie mix. That seemed to help mask the meat so my son would eat it.

I'd skip it, even if it's free. I know this isn't exactly scientific, but I always felt weird about giving my baby something I myself wouldn't eat. And meat purées always grossed me out big time.

My son was not into meat. With all the nutrients in formula and the fortified baby cereal he was getting we skipped jarred baby food meat. “Food before one is fun." Your LO is likely getting what he needs elsewhere in his diet.

DD is not into meat. I would not force it. Try puréed black beans or other high protein alternatives. Donate what you have or try again in a few months.

I would keep offering it, or mix it with other things like the previous posters said, but some babies just don't like meat. My DD rarely ate meat as a baby (her choice), and at 4, she still doesn't eat it very often.

@pmerr: Maybe mashed up banana? Most babies love the sweet taste of bananas, even if it sounds like a disgusting combination. Another idea is maybe see if there is a local mom's Facebook group that you can swap food with? Our local mom's group does this at times.

I need suggestions on ways to use jarred meat baby food. We get a bunch on WIC and LO is not fond of it. I try mixing it with other jarred veggies, but I still struggle to feed it to him. What can I do to help him eat it? Or how can I cook with it so maybe he'll eat it? I still can't do true solid food. He gags every time he had actual food, even if it's super tiny.
