We used disposables in the hospital both times, after csections I wasn't up for dealing with cloth. My hats off to the PPs who did!

But my SILs both used old super soft muslins which they cut into strip liners. No dramas at all and no staining. We use sized nappies and both ours went into cloth at around a week old.

The hospital gave us one pack of newborn disposable diapers and we used that up before starting with gDiapers. The pack lasted 4-5 days once home and it was long enough to get through the meconium and first few yucky poos.

@Mrs squirreld: I used the GroVia disposable liners, which I believe are made from ingeo tree fibers?

We used Lil Joey's and didn't do anything special! It washed right out and I sunned them a few times too just in case.

@Arden: awesome. thanks. did you use a natural fibre liner? Like bamboo?
@jetsa: that's what my approach was going to be too, but tonight I saw a meconium poo and woah! Lol. I heard a lot of people found they didn't stain so was wondering if any bees had experience. ;-)

We used kissas fitteds (size 0) and a cover (we used Rumparooz) almost from birth. Lorelei was in the NICU for the first two days due to breathing issues, and they did not allow us to use our cloth diapers while she was in there, but as soon as she was able to be with us we started with our cloth. It was a little less than 48 hours after birth, and she still had some meconium poops. We had brought them to the hospital when we realized I was going to need a repeat cesarean. We did end up having to sun them, but we had no staining. I was impressed with how well the fitteds held up. Lorelei was pretty small, so we used them for several months before we switched to a larger size.

I used liners inside my newborn sized cloth with a snap down for the cord (Lil Joey's). No issues!

We waited until his stump fell off (at 2 weeks) because I didn't want to risk ruining my cloth diapers (or irritate the cord stump).

@Mrs squirreld: his was gone by the time we got home and we went into newborn cloth then. The hospital stay was just too hectic I am glad we didn't bring cloth to use there.

Our hospital used cloth diapers, so we "borrowed" a few when we left. If we didn't use the hospital's diapers i definitely would've gone with disposables.

@runsyellowlites has a great idea. i would use the t-shirts (washed in scent-free detergent) instead of regular liners...which may be too rough for a NB.

@Pink Champagne: @grizz: we have newborn prefolds & covers with the snap down rise for the stump so hopefully that will work.

We used disposables, both because of the cord and because he was way too tiny for his BG 4.0s (he was only 6 lbs at birth so we had to wait a couple of weeks).
Even so, the meconium passed by the time we left the hospital (two day stay).

We waited, because DS's dipes also came all the way up to his cord stump and rubbed on it. Next time we will probably use a different brand of dipe that folds down at the bellybutton, and use liners. We looooove CDs! :)

For those who cloth diapered from birth did you use liners for those first few meconium poos or did you just use straight cloth. Did it stain your diapers at all?
