Never used anything other than a PISA but a friend came over once and borrowed my pump because she stayed longer than she had planned to. She has a freestyle and she said that the PISA had much stronger suction, and she thought there were more streams of milk coming out than when she uses her freestyle..!

@chopsuey119: ooooh, I thought you meant the back part with the valve things with the yellow piece. I've got tons of the hard flanges, I thought the soft ones were uncomfortable. Thank you for the photos! Maybe I'll buy another set of the valve thingies tomorrow and try again. I hope it works, I want to love my pump!

@Mrs. Stroller: I have no idea what model the hospital used, but it was huge and on wheels!
Not all of the parts were useable on my Freestyle. Luckily the cups (or shields) were!

Ok I'd better take it apart and try again. It sounds like I'm doing something wrong. @chopsuey119: Great tip about the hospital parts, I'll have to see if the ones I have fit. Was it from the giant Symphony model at the hospital?

I've had both the freestyle and the in-style. I used the in-style for about 2 months, and then bought the freestyle for the mobility factor. I never had any issue with suction on either pump. I too was scared that the freestyle wouldn't suction as well, but it worked fine for me. And i thought that if anything ever happened to the freestyle, I always had my in-style to take over. I really disliked pumping, but the freestyle at least, made it more bearable.

@chopsuey119: innnteresting. i have a whole set of hard ones too from renting the symphony and buying the mini electric. will have to try using them instead of the soft ones! i always thought the suction problem was in the back part (the soft yellow silicone like thing), but maybe it was the soft cups all along! thanks for the tip!

@Mrs. Stroller: are the suction cups the soft plastic or hard plastic?
Mine came with soft plastic cups that didnt work well at all. Luckily my hospital gave me medela pumping parts.. Including hard cups. They worked really well--great suction

sometimes when i don't put the flanges together properly one or both of them will not suction properly or have a weak suction. i just take it apart and make sure everything is airtight! kind of annoying, but alas :)

we bought ours brand new 2 months ago.

hope it works for you!!

My friend borrowed my freestyle after her Pisa died. She liked the freestyle more and thought it had more power because of the better battery.

I bought a nearly-new Medela Freestyle from a local mom today. She stopped working after only 5 weeks so the pump is barely used. I have been borrowing a pump-in-style from a friend and figured it was time to get one of my own.

My question is, has anyone tried both? Or tried the one at the hospital v. the Freestyle? I tried it out today and the suction didn't seem to suck as much as the PIS. I'm going to buy some new flanges and see if that helps, but I'm just wondering if anyone has noticed the same thing.
