One of my friends at work uses the lactina and hasn't had any problems. I use the symphony after using a PISA and the symphony is wayyyy better than the PISA at least!

@autumnlove: I had a hemorrhage after delivery and used the Lactina bc of supply issues. It's the only pump I used so I have nothing to compare it to but it worked well for me! It's super huge and bulky though and was a pain in the butt taking to work. I was contemplating buying the freestyle just bc I couldn't deal with carrying the hulking thing I work but ended up quitting my job. Other than size, I thought it was great :)

@autumnlove: ah! Looks interesting.

The hospital grade didn't help me with supply issues, to be honest. But, I hope it helps you and maybe you won't have supply issues! If you get a good amount, make sure to show us!! I always find it fascinating when women can get like 12oz in a sitting. That was never me...

I've used the Lactina, Symphony, and Freestyle--of the three the Lactina was my least favorite. Don't get me wrong it's very powerful but so SLOW! I had a much faster letdown with the Freestyle and Symphony. Once I got the hang of my Freestyle I returned the Lactina. It's so loud and archaic looking. I found the Freestyle was able to extract more milk in the same amount of time.

The Lactina is powerful, but I hated it after using the symphony in the hospital. The piston actually moves so it's pretty loud. I ended up paying to rent the symphony.

If you are at risk for low supply, I'd try the Lactina and if you don't like it, switch. I think it should work well. Make sure to religiously pump every three hours and don't stop until 5 min after the lost drop comes out.

Good luck and congrats!

A hospital grade pump is what's recommended if you are trying to build supply. I used the Lactina and it seemed to work well.

I had pp hemorrhage with #2 also, but used a Medela Symphony for the first month, then the Freestyle. I thought hospital-grade was better.

I had a hemorrhage and retained tissue and had BAD supply issues. I didn't use a Lactina but I had a hospital grade Symphony rented to me from my LC for 3 months. I think it did make a difference. It allowed me to get at least a little each day.

My OB and the lactation consultant think I am at risk for having supply issues because of a pp hemorrhage. I'm not allowed to use my herbal supplements for now(fenugreek and blessed thistle) because they might thin my blood. :-( They ordered a hospital grade Medela Lactina pump for me and it should be delivered tomorrow. The rental is free for a month so I guess I will try it out!

Have you used this pump? I already have the Freestyle...is the Lactina that much better?
