@Mrsbells: omg I love the manual one. I use it at night if baby sleeps long and I'm super full. I hate getting the electric one out, putting that hands-free bra one, plugging it on, etc. It's just easier, much quieter and actually WAY faster.
I also used it on a road trip! (MY DH was driving but I know lots of ladies who use it driving lol). Our feeding schedule was off so I pumped a little and gave him the bottle on the long drive. Milk was the right temp and everything.
I also use it any time I feel full and baby's not hungry or if I want to build my stash a little.

@pachamama: when do you use a manual one? is there a reason you would use a manual when you have an electric pump?

@meadow: my bad. Now that I count I guess they are about the same. I think I was annoyed with the valves, silicone diaphragms, adaptor lids. But it might mostly be just that I was annoyed with washing them in the hospital room while add was in NICU. Glad you like yours.

Can't speak for the other one but I love my Medela pump in style. I just bought the manual medela Harmony one too, has been a lifesaver.

I was very happy with my ameda (I used ameda pumps for both my kids). Ameda is a closed system, where as Medela is not. That was enough to make me select Ameda.

So it appears I was looking at the wrong suppliers. When I called I was provided with a new list and they do stock the older version of Lansinoh and also Spectra as well as Medela and Ameda. So I will just avoid medela because I dont want to deal with an open system that can get milk or condensation in the tubes

@meadow: you can get replacement valves called "duckbill" valves that are so much sturdier! I like the ones by Hygeia best, but the Nene Supply and Maymom ones are ok too! I just put mine in the silverware basket of the dishwasher.

@iluvboba637: too many parts? I think my hospital grade ameda had less... the flange part which was one unit instead of 2 and the little valve thingy were all I washed.....whereas the PISA has the valve. Membrane, 2 part flange.....and that membrane so looks like I'm going to lose it down the sink!!

I have 2 Medela Pisa, the first one I used 6-8 times a day for 14 months when I EP with Ds and it still works 3 years later! I used a hospital grade Ameda when Dd was in the NICU and I did not like it. Too many parts and maybe also because the shields didn't fit me well. And I felt the suction was either too strong or wasn't strong enough - I couldn't get it to be perfect for me.

@YogiRunner: My Ameda worked well until it didn't. It just couldn't handle being used twice a day for months on end and really gave up by 11 months.

I've never had a Medela, so I can't compare the two, but I used the ameda with my first LO, and had no issues with it. I liked that it was a closed system. Their customer service is great! When dd1 was about 7 months old, my supply dropped and I thought it was a pump issue (it wasn't)- they had new valves and two different size flanges overnighted to me, and then I got a call back from a lactation consultant. I felt very taken care of, and will always recommend ameda.

I got a Medela from my cousin and used it for the past 3 years with both LOs. I got an Ameda from my insurance for free and used it for a little bit but mostly kept it as back-up in case I left my Medela at work. I preferred the Medela over the Ameda because the parts were easier to separate and clean.

Last time I used a lansinoh pump and loved it even though it was at the lower end of the price range. I was planning to get the new Lansinoh Smart Pump, but my insurance website says they go through medical suppliers that dont carry the Lansinoh brand. They have Ameda and Medela and a few others I didnt recognize.
Are you happy with your Medela Pump? my old pump was a closed system and I really liked that. I''m not on the fence between Medela or Ameda Purely Yours
