Good to know - thanks for the info ladies! I'll hold on to what I have and wait until after the baby is born to figure out what size I really am (I'm planning to bring my pump and accessories to the hospital so the LC can help me get started with pumping). Here's hoping the Mediums work because they seem to be the easiest ones to find in stores.

I actually use the small ones and I just held onto the medium ones in case I knew someone who might need them. You could try to sell them on craigslist, though.

Definitely talk with an LC. Maybe buy one pair to have on hand in case you do need the smaller ones, but your nipple can change size when your milk comes in. Most women take the M

I needed a bigger size for the horns, but I got them for free at the hospital after a consult with the LC on staff.

Talk with the lactation consultant. It's not as straightforward as you'd think to figure out sizing.

So . . . my Medela pump came with size Medium shields. As did my accessory kit. After holding one up to my nipple, I think I definitely need size small ones. Should I wait until after I have the baby and talk with a lactation specialist before buying a smaller size? Does the nipple size change after birth?

And, if I do need a smaller size, what the heck should I do with the 4 size Medium ones I already have?!? I can't return them to the store - do you think I could sell them on Craigslist and just list them as "never been used - too big for me, needed a smaller size"?
