@Foodnerd81: the swing is super portable. It fits just in a little bag. I bring it if I have to go to a wedding or something and plan to bring it to work when I go back. You can just put batteries in it when you have to go somewhere but when I'm home I always use the plug.

@delight: Do you think the Swing is portable enough to just use in a pinch or bring when I don't know if I'll want it or not? I hadn't really thought about using both hands-- it's awfully boring pumping if you can't read on your phone or something.

I have both, the harmony and swing. I'm definitely faster with the swing and don't have to concentrate or use both hands. I just dislike that when I use the harmony I can't do anything else at the same time. I also agree with @pmerr: the suction on harmony isn't great.

I might get the Swing, and then if you want to try a manual, I highly recommend the Lansinoh. I've also tried the Harmony and the suction isn't as good as the Lansinoh's, which I use everytime I pump (also a SAHM).

I have the harmony and it has been fine for me as a SAHM who pumped infrequently most of the time. I was able to get out enough for full feedings for him (about 4oz), although as he got older I feel like it was not as efficient as getting milk out (probably because my supply had gone down).

I have the Harmony and wish I could return it. The suction is horrible, and I got hardly anything in 5 minutes (like, not even an ounce total). I have heard others who have thought the same.

I already have a Medela Double Electric Pump (the insurance type one in the tan bag). It works great when I want to do a full pumping session, and as a SAHM, I only pump occasionally.

New insurance this year will cover another pump. I want to get one that I can use when traveling, or when I just want to quickly pump a little, like if she doesn't take a side, or recently I pumped just an ounce so I could freeze it into ice cubes to gnaw on while teething.

For that use, would you recommend the Medela Harmony Manual pump, or the Medela Swing? I was thinking manual, since i have the double electric, but is the Swing even better--seems way lighter than my double pump, and runs on batteries, but is it still more effort than popping on the manual? Both are at no extra cost to me.
