I was on a jury for a case and one of the charges was assault with a deadly weapon (a shod foot). A bunch of the jurors were disappointed that they hadn't DNA tested the sneaker to prove the victim's DNA was present. I'm a lawyer, and I love love love love it ALL!! I especially like Locked Up and Gangster Land shows. I worked at the DA's office in Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence Unit, so it's interesting to see the show profile the conditions of the prisons that contain many inmates serving time for sexual assaults and murder. It's the what happens after I get up from the prosecutor's table. I remember my first case where the defendant got 20 years. He was 18. </p> <p>Now, I'm no longer in criminal law, and it breaks my heart. This is my last link to the criminal law world. However, I am <b>always</b> called Mrs. ______ or Counsel. It's not Miss/Ms., and a lot of time the communication occurs over email so they don't even know if I'm married or not. It's annoying how formal it is. However, Counsel calls everyone by their first names, including each other. I tell my clients, please it's just my first name! It got so awkward once, I told one of my clients, I'm not even 30, call me Mrs. once I'm over 45! Just call me by my first name!!! They're getting better, but on a whole it's still Mrs.____. Never Mrs. I also never refer to myself in documents as "Mrs." and correct my boss when he does. I feel like it sort of takes away from my professionalism to be designated as "wife of" rather than just Ms. which seems more professional to me. </p> <p>As for shows-- I like some crime law shows (like law and order, although those are generally more cop-based anyways) but I don't practice criminal law at all. I do not like shows featuring civil law, what I do. I haven't seen the Good Wife, although I've heard it is good. But they just don't appeal to me at all. </p> <p>Also my mom harassed me into watching Drop Dead Diva and my eyes rolled so hard she could hear them across the state. Like yes… every case is "for the greater good" and has a sympathetic honest client and you win an amazing award with some clever maneuver and the whole thing is handled inside of a few weeks. He doesn't watch cop shows, but he doesn't watch "fictional" television in general most of the time, and I don't mind them. </p> <p>I know he really hates CSI, and blames it for making his job difficult when people want you to lift a fingerprint off a rug, or zoom in on their crappy surveillance footage to find at a license plate reflected in somebody's sunglasses, and get DNA samples back in 5 minutes.
