I've always taken Zyrtec and I've read that it's perfectly fine for pregnant women to take. I asked my doctor when my allergies flared up just to make sure and he gave the OK. He said in his opinion he would recommend Zyrtec over any others because it's milder? I don't know how true that is but I took it twice a day for a few weeks.

Thank you all for your replies! Zicam is basically zinc. I have the tablets that melt in your mouth and it's for when you start feeling any signs of a cold coming on to try to stop it.

All of those but Zicam were approved by my doctor (I don't even know what Zicam is, so it never came up as something for me to ask about).

Remember; anyone can write anything they want on the Internet and "advise" what's appropriate or not to take, but only properly educated, licensed and insured people can advise as doctors. :)

My OB okay-ed tylenol and all allergy meds. She also okay-ed sudafed as long as I didn't have high blood pressure and tylenol cold. Never took zicam so can't help there.

My OB and my Pharmacist OKed Claritin, Sudafed and Tylenol. I avoided most during my pregnancy, but there were 2 days that I needed the Sudafed. I had the worst head cold and was making it worse by not getting any sleep. I needed to just clear up my nose a bit and the Sudafed was my savior for those two days!

All but Zicam were on my list. If they said it was ok, I took it! I even took symbicort for my asthma. Honestly, I think googling just made things sound worse to me. I trusted what my doctor said.

@tejbee: I took Claritin everyday for allergies and I'm snuggling my 6 week old right now. I had to take benadryl occasionally. I took Tylenol some, but not everyday.

@HLK208: Of course, I took a Zicam before I googled and found differing information. :( I'd like to hear more about this one in particular now.

@Foodnerd81: Benedryl and Sudafed handle different symptoms; I don't see them as interchangeable. Benedryl handles a runny, drippy nose/sneezing and Sudafed handles the stopped-up congestion and sinus pressure. A runny nose I can deal with, but when it comes to miserable congestion, Sudafed (the real stuff behind the pharmacy) is my go-to.

Mine oked Tylenol but were iffy in the sudafed- they preferred Benadryl I think. I opted to avoid both but did tKe Tylenol when absolutely needed. I was prob too strict and suffered unnecessarily.

Off the top of my head, I know my OB okayed Tylenol, benadryl, and sudafed. I trusted my doc with the medicine stuff! Once you go in for your first appt, they should give you a written list too. I took that and put all the safe stuff in one bin and everything else out of sight so I couldn't accidentally take it.

The day I got my BFP I called my OB/GYN and asked about some medications I had in case I got sick. This may not be a full list, but ultimately these were the medications they said were OK: Tylenol,
Sudafed (only the kind you have to use your ID to get from the pharmacy is okay, not the over-the-counter sudafed PE),
Claritin,
Zyrtec,
Benadryl,
Zicam

Of course I read differing advice online about some of these. So I don't know whether to listen to my doctor who says they are all okay, or to avoid them! Ugh, I hate mixed information. What have your doctors said about any of these?
