I did last year but I didn't have the focus to follow a strict plan, that wasn't the nutritionist's fault. That's my working mom life. She did give me a great breakfast suggestion that I still eat, Oat Bran mixed with unsweetened vanilla almond milk. I like it with cinnamon and/or fruit. There were a few other things I held onto.

i met with a registered dietitian once because i wanted to lose weight in a healthy way before my wedding. I learned quite a bit about what i was doing "wrong". Turns out i was never eating enough during the day and then overeating at night which was keeping the weight on. She asked me a lot about my preferences and then put together a meal plan where i can choose what foods to have at each meal, but the "plan" was to make sure i was getting enough carbs, fat and protein at every meal. It was so awesome and eye opening. I felt like i was eating more than before, and i lost weight.

I've meet with various professionals before and the best fat loss advice I got was from a book, Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle. I always worked out hard and ate great, but I needed to change the macronutrient profiles around to maximize results in the gym-fueling my body appropriately and encouraging fat loss. When I hit a plateau after that book, I met with a fitness competitor who provided coaching, and she tweaked mine some more-she said I wasn't eating enough. The previous nutritionist I met with had me on 1400 calories a day. 1400. That's it. Then I got pregnant. 3 days of exercise is also possibly not enough.

But anyways. Check out macros for fat loss! It's really structured and if you're eating in a deficit, it works great

@looch: No I haven't.

I did speak with my OB/GYN last year and she was pretty much like "yeah, well your getting older, you need to watch your diet and exercise"
I go again in a few months so I will ask her to run some blood work -

I also feel like its genetic - my mom and sister have both gotten heavier in the hips/thighs and that's the way I am headed -so maybe there isn't anything I can do?

@Mamaof2: I think you and I are the same age....have you had a hormone panel done recently? I met with my Ob/gyn at my well visit and explained the situation and he said that it's common for women to have problems losing weight as they age because of hormones.

I am a dietitian :) if you are planning to meet with one, definitely make sure they are a registered dietitian, not just a 'nutritionist.' Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, but a dietitian has at least a bachelors degree and completed an internship and passed an exam. I think one would definitely be able to help you, they will likely look at your diet (try and keep a recall if you can) and make suggestions within your lifestyle on how to lose the weight.

Has anyone ever met with a Nutritionist or Dietician?

I feel like I need someone to tell me exactly what to eat and how to get this weight off of me - I work out pretty hard 3 days a week and the scale isn't budging - I have about 7lbs to lose (use to be 5 but its gone up :bummed: )

I keep reading all these different "diets" online and wonder what would work for me - or can you even figure that out???
