My daughter has a ton of mega blocks but we now prefer the duplo for her. Mainly for us is a quality issue. I feel like duplo is so much higher quality that is going to last far longer than the mega blocks

My son has both, and he actually play with them equally at age 4.5. The smaller legos are still a challenge for him to build, so I imagine we'll be using the duplos for another year at least (he's been using them since he was 1).

@aprild: I have no clue! I just thought they weren't into building stuff but once they had duplos they started playing with them!

Buy a small set and see what your LO thinks of them!

@aprild: We're in the same boat. My kid has a TON of Mega Bloks. I just can't imagine buying him a ton of Duplos as well. I think we'll just stick with what we have until he's older and ready for regular Legos.

@Mamaof2: What did they like about the Duplo over the Mega Bloks?

Different experience here as my kids never cared for Mega Blocks so I got Duplo and they loved them!!!

My 6yr old still plays with the duplo and the reg lego blocks too!

hmm.... I think I would skip the duplos since they are similar (and expensive) and use the money instead on some different kind of building toy, maybe magnatiles? they're also $$ but can be used now when your LO is small and are still very fun when they are older. :)

My 2 year old has a huge set of Mega Bloks that he loves. I bought them for him when he was a year old, and I chose Mega Bloks because they are larger than Duplo, so I thought they would be easier for him to build with. Now that he has mastered the Mega Bloks, my husband wants to buy him Duplos. I'm wondering if it's worth the investment, since they are only slightly smaller than Mega Bloks. Should we buy him Duplos and then later on Legos, or let him use the Mega Bloks until he's ready for the Legos?
