I've tried almost every kind of babywearing device out there, and by far my favorite for the long haul has been my WCMT. It is so much more supportive once you start doing back carries and your baby is heavy. Right around 22 pounds or so, my ergo just got uncomfortable. Plus, DS has long legs, and even though the knee to knee support isn't a big deal anymore, it made such a huge difference being able to spread the wrap straps to give him a wider and more supportive seat.

If you can go to a babywearing meeting, do it! They often have lending libraries where you can try stuff our first. I wish I had that option in my tiny town.

I would personally go for a WCMT. I have heard amazing things about the Fidella Fly Tai. They are gorgeous and reasonably priced (~$110) for a wrap conversion. I know I paid an arm and a leg for my custom WCMT and I haven't even used it really.

I would like to add that not all SSC are created equal so maybe you just haven't found the one that works for you. Going from my Ergo Performance (which I loved with my first) to the Tula was like night and day! So much more comfortable for both baby and myself.

Oh, and if you're interested in getting a WCMT at some point, I'd check out Topatop slings on Etsy or the big swap on Facebook.

I had a Catbird mei tai and I liked it a lot. I'd suggest getting an inexpensive one and trying it out. I later got a wrap conversion mei tai and it is fantastic. I really like having the wider straps, the more supportive material, and the ring waist.

We just got out Fidella FlyTai mai tai last week and we love it. It has padded top straps and is made out of a wrap so it's super soft and is adjustable in size my very small 11 month old (15 lbs) and my small 2.5 year old (25 lbs) both fit with a little adjustment between the two.

I've used a babyhawk a fair amount and I found it pretty uncomfortable. The straps dug into my hips and shoulders, so I never wore it for longer than 30-45 mins.

The infantino mei tai is a very affordable and good quality option. We were using it a lot before we got our Lillébaby, which is pretty much all we use now.

We have a BabyHawk mei tai! It's very stiff thick fabric, though stylish, which was awkward to use when my little dude was a newborn -- it didn't shape to his body as much as I wanted. It got good once he was 6-9mo; his legs needed to be long enough for him to sit comfortably. I can still hoist him around in it in an emergency (like when he fell asleep at the zoo and I had to walk/carry him 20mins to the car); the last time we used it he was 2.5yo and about 35-37lbs. The straps can dig in, especially as your LO gets bigger/heavier, but I still love that it alleviates some of the weight/strain of carrying him around.

@junebugsmama:

I was thinking about a tula, but found a ergo for $20 and went for that instead. I hate the ergo, the padded waist strap digs into me, it seems too short for my torso, and the thick padded shoulder straps and all the buckles bother me. I am wondered if the padding and buckles on the tula would bother me too, so I abandoned that idea.

I found catbird this morning and am also torn between them and babyhawk. I am concerned about the shoulder straps being uncomfortable. I have a back problem, but wraps dont bother me at all (I think because the weight is more spread out?). My baby is 7 weeks old and 10.5 pounds, so who knows what will be comfortable when she gets bigger.

The meeting is a great idea. I am going to look for a meeting near me. I would love to try a bunch of carriers! They are too expensive for me to experiment with.

I got one about a month ago! I wish I had a good pic of us, I'd post it. I got it because I had the idea for a few months since my baby wasn't a fan of the tula since it was a little big on him. He loved being in the ring sling but was getting so heavy. Now honestly I have been using the tula all the time and it's a bit more comfortable than my brand new babyhawk. I think he needed to get the leg length to really fit. The babyhawk is very cute and baby loves it. However, the shoulder straps aren't super comfortable to me. His weight feels a bit heavier where the tula supports it more.
I think the issue is I need to learn back carries. I might go to a baby wearing international meeting. Do they have those where you are? I haven't one but they have mei tais and all kind of carriers to try.

Btw. My baby is huge. He's 6m and 23 lbs. I might be no help at all considering this fact if your baby is much smaller!

Hello,

I am new to the baby wearing world. I have a boba wrap and love it, and a ergo that I hate. I think a mei tai would work really well for me. There are so many brands and I really dont know where to start. What brands can you recomend? What should I look for with them?

I am looking at baby hawk mei tais right now. They have so many cute options. Does anyone have a babyhawk that they like or dislike?
