I get this from hormones. I have used otc like the garnier brand and that worked okay. I finally went to my Derm and got a high end serum and did a chemical peel. I am loving the results from the peel!!

I had success with Murads line for fading dark spots. I can't say to what level because I suck at sticking to a skincare plan. I also use the radiance brush for the clarasonic.

@Happygal: I have several family members! They're all in it with each other. While they are nice, you can also tell they are just trying to make sales and following scripts so it's hard to tell what is and isn't legit.

Ironically, I do not have any problems with this now after baby, but when I was younger & on the pill, I had quite a few melasma areas on my neck or forehead & just waited for winter for them to fade each season. I also got a lot more sun back then, though, too.

@Boogs: I don't have any friends trying to sell me that product.....yet! I've never used them, but it's good to hear there is a cheaper, and just as effective, product out there.

@Happygal: I've heard that about r&f, but always from consultants so it has made me skeptical. I'll definitely look into the other product.

@Bluebonnet: Thanks for the tip!

@hellobeeboston: If you do use r&f I'm curious to hear what you think!

I have a very minor spot that is fading on it's own (8.5 months pp) and another spot that isn't... my sister also has it really bad all over her face.

We're going going to try R+F products when we're done nursing... we've heard great things.

I had it! I tried a lot of OTC products (including high end products) and nothing worked. My dermatologist prescribed me tri-luma and it worked like magic! Highly recommend it (and its cheaper than the R+F regimen).

Note - all products that treat melasma have a warning that your skin will be more sensitive to sun and direct exposure to sunlight is not recommended while undergoing treatment.

@Boogs: there are chemical peels and laser treatments, but I've read lightening agents are the most effective. Hydroquinone is the one listed as being the best, and it's the one I thought was totally off limits as a pregnant and breastfeeding women.

My friend's sister has used Rodan + Fields for it, and she showed me pictures. I saw a definite difference!

I have it. It gets stronger during pregnancy and never went away. Staying out of the sun is huge. I thought all the treatments to take care of it were off limits if you are nursing, but an article on KellyMom said that's not true!

I think I had this post baby on my neck and my stomach. I thought it was just going to stay there, but then I took a skin brush to both areas one day with soap and scrubbed until my skin was pink...it came off and never came back. Not sure if I would do that to my face though. I did read it can come back/get worse with sun so it may only be a temporary fix.

Oh maybe I do. I thought it was more that I look so tired and washed out but that picture does look like it. I just use a tinted moisturizer when I'm feeling fancy and don't worry about it.

After having babies, do you find that you have pesky dark marks/splotches on your face?

I have a few spots and they drive me crazy! (Not my photo, but my forehead is similar to the photo on the left). Is there anything you can do about them? I thought they went away on their own, but mine haven't and it's been a while now. :(
