@Vegmama: Cherry juice? I am off to check it out - I will try anything!!!

@Mrsbells: Melatonin is a hormone in our bodies that help regulate sleep (that's all I know about it)

@edelweiss: no nap - he turned 5 in Sept and was napping for about 20 mins at DCP each day and it REALLY affected bedtime - its like those 20 mins made him stay awake until 10pm! So I told them no more naps!! So now he goes down easily at 7 or 730

I don't know if it would help, but we got my daughter one of those alarm clocks that shows a green light when it's time to get up for the day. DD still gets up early, but at least we don't get the middle of the night questions about when it's time to get out of bed!

Ours is like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Stoplight-Sleep-Enhancing-Groovy-Butterflies/dp/B002TKLN3W/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384547911&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=stoplight+alarm+clock+for+kids

that is painfully early! i don't have any advice on the melatonin (i agree with your instinct to call the ped) but i was wondering, does your LO still take a nap? i only ask because my 10-month old has been waking up early (4 or 5am) for the past 6 months and i finally spoke to a sleep consultant. she suspects that the reason for the early wakeups is his scarce napping at daycare, and his body being too much in awake mode (i.e. too much cortisol which counteracts melatonin) which prevents him from being able to fall back asleep after a sleep cycle ends in the wee hours.

but your son is older, so the nap thing may be completely inapplicable to you.

in any case i hope you find some relief!

My husband was talking about the melatonin thing recently. His research turned up some peds saying that while effective, it is simply treating the symptoms, not the problem.

You must be going INSANE, though- 3am wake up? I. Would. Die.

Good luck! Hugs to you.

I've heard amazing things about tart cherry juice. Especially when it comes to sleep. The tart cherry juice boosts melatonin levels naturally.

I wouldn't do a supplement, but that's just me personally.

I've heard great things about Organic Dynamic Tart Cherry Juice. You can order it on Amazon or Vitacost.

Any one here use Melatonin for their kids?

My 5 yr old is driving me batty - he has never been the best sleeper but it keeps getting worse!

He goes to sleep fine usually at 7-7:30pm - he wakes several times at night and if he wakes anytime after 3am - he is up FOR THE DAY!!!! ahhhhhh!!!!!

Besides the fact that he isn't getting enough sleep he is coming in my room every 30 mins asking if its time to get up so now I am tired (and cranky) too!

A friend suggested melatonin but I thought that was to help you fall asleep, not stay asleep.

I think I may call the ped today too.

Anyone here give their toddler melatonin? Does it work?

Also as a side note - I have played with his bedtimes too - making it early (630pm) and late (8pm) - doesn't matter, he still wakes!
