Oh my goodness, the kid who lived next door to me (when I lived in my old house) had regular meltdowns - like, several per day. I'm telling you, he cried constantly. I used to lie there in bed totally judging the parents for not resolving whatever issue the child had.... but now I know better than that! Once, the mother knocked on my door to give me a parcel she had taken in for me and the child - by this time, about 3yo - tried to walk into my house. The mother took his hand and said "no, we're not going in" and he had a full screaming meltdown on my doorstep. I was shocked!!

My 19 month old daughter never does this meltdown for no reason thing that I hear people talk about. She never has. She'll cry if she's really tired and she doesn't get what she wants, but that's it. I'd like to think that it's because she's REALLY verbal and can really understand when I explain things and that I'm just super lucky with her. But in reality it's probably just coming one of these days out of the blue.

Yes, this is normal. It's only now that I have kids that I sort of have an idea of what is normal and not normal behavior. There's a kid downstairs who has a meltdown every day, and he's way older. I still have no idea if this is normal but I suspect it's not. I think he's around 10 years old and maybe there are some issues there.

My son had daily tantrums for weeks and then would be well-behaved for a weeks after that. I agree with @mr.bee. It kind of comes in waves (at least in my experience).

@TheSwissWifeStyle: DD is 15 months and we seem to have at least one meltdown per day. Yesterday, she cried because the mini-muffin I gave her split in two when she bit into it. The other night, it was the end of the world because I told her she couldn't throw her plate on the floor. LOL

I think a lot of it is frustration. They are more aware of things and becoming more independent, yet they don't fully understand how things work or how to communicate what they want or need. So, the only way they know how to handle it is to cry. As they get older, they learn to deal with those emotions so the tantrums should taper down (hopefully). Also, a lot of it has to do with the child's personality. My daughter is very spirited, so she has a lot more meltdowns than my friend's child, who is very relaxed.

Mine is a couple months shy of 2 ... I would say he has a mini-meltdown most days, but I can calm him within a couple of minutes. I know they get harder to quell as they get older, though.

I foresee LO having a meltdown every day. She's pretty strong-willed already.

At 6 months old, LO has a meltdown at least once a day, usually when changing her clothes. I'm hoping she outgrows it soon!

It depends... the kids tend to have 2 good weeks, then 2 bad weeks. Sometimes the cycles are shorter, sometimes longer.

During a bad period, it's not uncommon to have tears and/or meltdowns pretty frequently!

My LO is only 1 but she did when she was a newborn, for about the first 3.5 months. She cried unless she was asleep or eating. It was awful.

Not since then though. I pretty much expect it when she hits 2-3. She's got an attitude on her already.

I'm not a mom yet, so I'm not judging!

But I'm just wondering, does your LO have a crying meltdown every day?

I ask because our neighbors kid(s?) seem to be crying all the time, every day. It's a big home, with maybe 3-4 apartment units in it? So I'm not quite sure who the "cryer' is, but since it's been warm out they've been outside every day. (Good for them!) And of course our windows have been open. Basically our one wall is a huge sliding glass door, so I can see and hear everything.

Not sure the age, maybe 2-3? I remember the same thing happened last year, and figured by this year they'd be grown out of it. But I guess not! It seems like someone has a meltdown about something at least once a day. Unfortunately I don't speak French so I have no idea of the circumstance. (Ie-the mom told them not to pick something up and they got in trouble, they fell down, another kid took a toy away, etc.)

Just wondering if this is common? Again, not judging, just wondering!
