One risk is premature rupture of waters, and if they are ruptured more than 24 hours before labor, you risk infection.</p> <p>That said, I went into labor at 39 weeks, and didn't have to make the call. If I would have gotten to 41, I likely would have considered it. I had already started losing my mucus plug that morning, went in at 1pm and she swept my membranes and told me some cramping might result (even if it didn't start labor). The cramping became stronger and stronger until I realized they were contractions! Water broke at 7:30 pm and DS was born at 4:35 am! But like I said, my body might have been starting things already, but I think it sped things up!
