I think we'll probably keep some stuff, but I don't know what yet. I know my sister has in storage a pretty rainbow outfit I had when I was a baby, and my birth announcement card is in my baby photos album.

I was recently at my parents' house and I found an album of old birthday and valentines day cards that I must have gotten before I was 3 or 4. I had no idea the book existed and it was SO cool to read it.

I think I'll keep special things like - hospital tag, footprint paper, baptism cards (so she can read them someday), coming home outfit and a onesie she was in in my favorite picture...etc.

I want to keep the really important stuff, but don't want to have huge boxes of things to deal with down the road, like I have from my childhood. It's fun to see, but a pain to deal with.

I'm about to order some 'year of the dragon' memory boxes for my kids for just this purpose. And hopefully having a specific box will help me limit the quantity and size of what I save!

We brought home a truck load of DH's childhood memories last weekend...He appreciated everything his step mom did for him especially sense it was his step mom. He admits he was kind of a jerk to her growing up but realized later that she was more of a mother to him then his real mom. His real mom horded his stuff and then held it hostage and would use it against him. It was fun watching him go through everything, it brought back good memories for him.

Edit: adding on that we plan on keeping stuff for our kids just not truck loads of it for them ;-)

@chopsuey119: DH LOVES looking through his and his brothers old things! He's more interested in things when he was a little older though, like drawings, toys that he loved, etc.

I have a lot of stuff in LO's baby book already. I'm crazy and put tons of things in there. But yes I'll also be keeping some other stuff... there's no way I'll be getting rid of the first hat that ever touched that keppie!

@chopsuey119: DH's mom gave me all his baby stuff when we got married to "look after" and we were just looking through his baby box and book last night. We were mostly looking for baby pictures to try and see what our baby *could* look like :) I told him that we need to do this for our LO so that many many years from now he can sit down with his wife when they are expecting and wonder what their baby may look like.

Yes. Both kids have boxes with their hospital baby hat, hospital t-shirt, newspaper birth announcements, and baptism gowns. I'll keep adding to it as they go through more stages (first day school, confirmation, etc...), but that's the contents right now.

I keep EVERYTHING so yes, I will definitely be doing this! I don't know that boys will care as much as girls, but I'm still a keeper :)

@chopsuey119: What kinds of things do you keep?
I have been keeping things like her hospital hat, hospital tags, pamphlets/cards from her first Artprize (a big art contest where I live), her baby shower cake topper...things like that. I will probably keep a few of her favorite little toys/stuffed animals too.I know when she gets in preschool/elementary school I will keep artwork and things like that.

Do you have a memory box for your LO(s)?

There are a few things I'll keep for my DD and DS. I'm wondering if my son will appreciate these things when he gets older though.
I know my husband could care less about things from his childhood. :T
