I would do tea party type food maybe. Little sandwiches, fruit, a couple of green and/pasta salads. Easy stuff! You can even do a caprese platter and Costco has a mix of meats like prosciutto and salami wrapped around cheese.

I haven't been to Costco in a long time and don't know what's there.

I would make a pasta salad and a veggie salad like broccoli or carrot. Those can be made and stored the day before. Then I would make or order two different kinds of simple 3-4 ingredient sandwiches on baguettes (meat+cheese+spread+veg/fruit). I would also serve veggie chips with a thick dip and sliced fruit.

To drink, lemonade and fruit infused water.

I've just been to a couple 1 year old parties this month that were in that time slot.

party 1 had: pizza cut into little squares (like, fancy gourmet pizza, plus 1 plain cheese); a crepe station with regular sweet crepes and with a breakfast crepe with eggs, bacon, cheese, etc; muffins, lots of fruit, cake and cupcakes

party 2 had: lots of little sandwiches, lots of crackers and dips, lots of fruit, some chips and finger food veggies, and cupcakes.

@Mrs. Pickle: Costco has premade sandwich platters and lots of other platters with things like fruit or veggies. Kids will still love pizza regardless of the theme though and will probably enjoy that more than any sandwich

Thanks for the suggestions!

@looch: I love that idea. I was thinking of ordering an edible arrangement. Maybe I could DIY though!

As far as quiche goes, I asked my husband what he thought about a brunch menu. He said "serving breakfast food and cake is weird." I think he's weird.

I like the idea of sandwiches on croissants or rolls, fruit, pasta salad, and veggies or a green salad. :) I need to look at Costcos catering menu.

We just had our daughter's first birthday party a few weeks ago. We didn't do a theme, had it in the park a block from our house, kept it simple, and got almost everything from Costco. We did make your own sandwiches--tray of lunch meat, tray of cheese and veggies, basket of condiments, basket of assorted rolls--veggie tray, fruit salad, pasta salad, and a cooler full of water bottles and fruit sodas.

In regards to sandwiches, we did something similar for my sister in law's shower. My mom cooked a pork and a beef tenderloin and then cooled it down before slicing. We served the meat cold with mini buns/rolls that we got a costco. Since it was done the day in advance, it was super easy. Then we had various salads.

So my oldest is a September baby and for his first birthday we totally hard did Costco for a gathering of about 25 people. We did a nautical theme (so red white and blue decorations). I got patterned and colored paper ware at Target and Dollar Tree (but sprung for high quality Chinet plates), did white tablecloths, a blue plaid runner, and mason jars filled with an assortment of red candies (red vines, starlight mints, sour cherry balls, etc).

We got a big half sheet cake (totally should have used Costco for the cake - the bakery wasn't much better and 3x the cost!) and served it with fresh sliced strawberries on the side.

For our menu we ordered two croissant sandwich platters, two shrimp cocktail plates (the small $10 ones, not the huge special order platter), cut up a huge watermelon, and great grandma's apple salad recipe.

The only thing I had to do was make the apple salad, chop fruit, and mingle!

For your party maybe some easy flowers from Trader Joes or Costco in mason jars, burlap runners, and pinwheels. Also Target dollar spot and a ton of super cute girly decorations lately!

@Mrs. Pickle: quiche seems to keep really well - as far as sitting out and not having to be warm. It's my go to for entertaining lately. Also trader joes has frozen croissants that taste amazing and all you have to do is warm them up a bit. Perhaps have the menu "brunch" based.. add some doughnuts - I find that doughnuts ALWAYS go over well..

I'd love to hear what you serve at a flower garden themed birthday party that starts at 11:30. I'm planning on providing a full meal since the party is during lunch time. So far the only thing I have is cake. :p I'd love to get as much as I can at Costco and not spend much time in the kitchen the day of the party. I do love to cook but don't want to feel rushed and frazzled.
