We started with the Merlin suit right about 5 months. LO had learned to roll over swaddled so that was pretty much game over on swaddling and we didn't have time to wean her into the suit gradually. At that point I was still rocking her to sleep for all naps and nighttime.

For night-- The first night in it she woke up more often than she had swaddled, but less often than she did the night previous when we didn't want to swaddle her but didn't have the suit yet. Night 2 she woke up less. Night 3 was back to our normal 2 wakeups/night.

For naps- Rocking her to sleep in it was maybe 10% harder at first for a day or two, then was back to normal. But-- she never really let me set her down in the suit. When she was swaddled I could rock her to sleep and set her down and she would sleep fine (usually, not always). From the day we put her in the merlin suit I don't think she ever slept more than 20 min of a nap in her crib again. I don't fully understand why but she just wouldn't do it. So I spent like 2 months rocking her for all naps until we finally gave up and nap trained.

Eating-- n/a she wasn't eating overnight at that point.

We've been using it for about a month (LO is 4.5 months old). TBH, it hasn't been a magic bullet for us. The first 2 nights we used it, her sleep improved, but after that she was back to her old crappy sleep ways. We're still using it because she was breaking out of the swaddle so she needed to be done with that anyway. I do BF her in it; it's bulky but we make it work!

We first tried the Merlin for naps, and only once or twice got more than one sleep cycle. Tried a few times at night, but never had any success. I think he was mad that he could get his hand to his mouth, but it was hard to keep it there because of the resistance. Just got a Zipadeezip and used it the first time last night with great results :) Hope it keeps up...

@Meridian: He was almost exactly three months when we started trying, and it took a couple of weeks before he decided he liked it.

@Meridian: we just started it for all sleep and used it for 4-5 months for all sleep. We did feed her in it, but I EPd, so it was coming from a bottle and we would just lay LO back on a pillow.

@blackbird: How old was your LO when you started using it?

@wonderstruck: When do you try it unsuccessfully, and when did he actually start doing well in it?

We did not do it all at once. We tried it and LO didn't do well in it, so I backed off it for a few days and tried again. Repeat a few times. Finally it happened where I put him in it and he did really well.

We just got the Merlin suit the other day, and I tried it with one nap on Monday, and one nap yesterday. I figured his afternoon naps are crap anyways, so might as well try it with the Merlin (I don't want to mess with his night time sleep yet, as it is JUST starting to get a little better!) It wasn't a complete fail as he lasted only 30 minutes before crying, but that's been the norm for him anyways, even when swaddled.

How did you make the transition to the Merlin? Did you go 100% and put your LO in it for all naps and night sleep? Or did you start with a few naps or night time only? How long did it take for LO to start liking it (or did they like it right away)?

Also, do you feed in the suit? It's so bulky to feed him in it, but I can't imagine trying to take him out and put him back in it in the MOTN (unless he has a poop diaper).

ETA: How old was your LO when you started using the Merlin? Mine is 16 weeks/11 weeks adjusted.
