@Jennibenni: a sleep sack isn't anything like a Merlin. The Merlin really restricts their movement but a sleep sack is just a blanket. It's very roomy.
We went from the Merlin to a sleep sack and never adjusted the room temp.
We use the Babydee Sleep Nest sleep sack, it's also thick like the Merlin but breathable so they don't overheat. It's like a sleep sack duvet or comforter :-) He sleeps so well in it, but still able to move freely and he even walks around his crib in it.
Also, I find that the sleep sack really helps with setting the nap/bedtime routine. He knows what it is and that it signifies nap time/bedtime. A sleep sack will continue that "ritual" from the Merlin.

@MrsADS: DD actually started sleeping better once we stopped swaddling her (also used SwaddleMe). She also figured out within days how to flip and sleep on her belly. She prefers that. She has slept in her crib from day 1 so we didn't have to deal with a RNP to crib transition so no help there. Sorry!

@Jennibenni: DD is always warm. We keep the house at 68 and she seems totally fine in just a footed sleeper.

@Mrs.KMM: @SweetiePie: and anyone who's LO is in just a sleeper: did you need to adjust the room temperature/did you feel like baby was cold? We keep our house pretty cool and turn on the ceiling fan in his room at night, and of course the Merlin suit is like a comforter. I wonder if he'd be cold and need a sleep sack or something? But then if I had to buy a sleep sack I guess I might as well just get the larger suit...

@MrsADS: With my good sleeper, not my crappy sleeper, we went from swaddle in RNP to Merlin in crib and the Merlin made it seamless. I don't understand the seamless transition with nothing magic...

Ok.... those of you who transferred from a swaddle (we use velcro Swaddle Me) to nothing in the crib... please tell me the wisdom of your ways!! We're going through kind of a sleep regression now (I just posted a thread), but once we get through THAT, I know I have to start thinking about the swaddle situation. DS is 12 wks and cannot sleep without the swaddle AND still sleeps in the RnP!

If LO has always been a good sleeper, I would transition out of it. We did Swaddke Me and then used nothing from about 3.5 months onward. She started belly sleeping around 5 months and I was ok with it at that point (we still put her on her back first of course).

For us we would've sized up b/c DD was in the merlin suit till almost 7 months. It was harder for her to roll in the suit.

That's about when we tansitioned out of the Merlin as well. He was outgrowing and it just seemed to make more sense to bite the bullet.
It took a few days for him to get over the excitement of being able to move. Haha. But it overall was quick and painless and he was sleeping just as well if not better a few days after stopping it.
Oh and I started with just naps, no suit. Then when he seemed comfortable with that I stopped at night. So night time sleep wasn't very impacted.

Wow that's a lot younger than our LO was when she grew out of the small size. Hers lasted until she was fully 6 months. We similarly had a seamless transition from Miracle Blanket to Merlin Suit and then several glorious months with the Merlin Suit. Tough call at that age since she's still pretty young, but I say give it a try to just transition out of it. It wound up being a piece of cake when we did put the Merlin Suit away, she just took a couple of nights to realize that she could roll over onto her belly, and that she actually preferred to sleep that way.

We transitioned DD to just sleeping in a sleeper (was being Velcro swaddled) at a little before 4 months. It was seamless. I'd go ahead and transition instead of buying something new.

Eh, by the time she was in the Merlin (4 mo) she was able to roll over it it within a few days. She went from being swaddled in a RNP to in just jams in her crib in less than 10 days, I vote just transition out over the holiday weekend.

Size up! Well, I started with a bigger size, but we we are 5 months and still loving it. DD wants to roll but doesn't want to sleep on her belly and I don't anticipate that changing soon. I wish I could remember when DS started sleeping fine despite rolling.

Merlin suit users: LO is 4.5 months and quickly outgrowing the small Merlin sleep suit. We transitioned to it pretty seamlessly from the Miracle Blanket and he has always been a great night time sleeper. He has only rolled over once that I know of so is not rolling really at all and definitely can't roll in the suit. I'm wondering if I should get the larger suit or just try and transition out of it. I hesitate to mess with the good sleep we're getting but if he doesn't "need" it I don't want to shell out for a new suit.

What did you do? Thanks!
