We would make our own purees and freeze cubes of them, then chop them in half to put in the feeder. He had some feeding and swallowing issues so I was really worried about choking. We used the mesh feeder to allow him to explore new tastes and textures. The mesh ones are more difficult to keep clean and banana stains them. You can order replacement mesh pieces on Amazon. I put fruits that were choking hazards in them and she loved it, especially during teething. Apple slices, halved frozen grapes, frozen mixed berries, etc. you have to rinse them immediately after using in order to keep them from being disgusting though.
