It was a huge help during pregnancy, but I had to fight with my doctors to stay on it. They usually want you to stop after the first trimester but I had learned from here (and did my own research) that it was becoming more common to keep women on it their entire pregnancies. </p> <p>But I caved to the pressure and stopped taking it, and my numbers went through the roof. I tried for weeks to regulate it with diet but it didn't work, and that point I didn't want to go back to metformin because I knew that GD gets worse as you get farther along, so I didn't want to wait and see if it resolved. I went to insulin, and we still had to mess with the dose a lot.</p> <p>I think if I get pregnant again, I need to find a different endocrinologist with more modern methods. Many people take oral medications through pregnancy and are fine. Biggest side effect is tummy ache and diarhea.<br /> I had a really rough time on the regular, but I tolerated the extended release better.
