@ShootingStar: ha, thanks. I think I took it too early last night because my fasting was still 102. My stomach kinda hurts....I hope this is temporary!

@ShootingStar: When did you take it? At night with dinner or with your bedtime snack? My paperwork has conflicting info so I will call my Dr later!

I took the extended release and I never had any side effects unless I forgot to take it for a few days, then once I took it again it would upset my stomach. It was a huge help during pregnancy, but I had to fight with my doctors to stay on it. They usually want you to stop after the first trimester but I had learned from here (and did my own research) that it was becoming more common to keep women on it their entire pregnancies.

But I caved to the pressure and stopped taking it, and my numbers went through the roof. I tried for weeks to regulate it with diet but it didn't work, and that point I didn't want to go back to metformin because I knew that GD gets worse as you get farther along, so I didn't want to wait and see if it resolved. I went to insulin, and we still had to mess with the dose a lot.

I think if I get pregnant again, I need to find a different endocrinologist with more modern methods. Many people take oral medications through pregnancy and are fine. But both ones I saw were against it.

I took 1500mg for PCOS and never had any side effects.. Once i got pregnant i stayed on it the first trimester (never had any morning sickness/side effects then either) and weaned off once i hit the 2nd tri.

You might not get any negative effects!

I take it for PCOS as well. I was switched to the extended release variety and am doing much better on it. The regular kind gave me really bad heartburn and nausea.

I take metformin for TTC to treat PCOS. I didn't start getting nausea and stomach aches until I was on 3 tablets (1500 mg), but it went away after my body got used to it.

Another side affect is increased appetite but I'm also taking dexamethasone which is a steroid and it might be causing the increase in appetite.

I take metformin but not for GD. Biggest side effect is tummy ache and diarhea.
I had a really rough time on the regular, but I tolerated the extended release better. I would see if that is available as an option.

I had no issues with controlling my GD for my second pregnancy with diet and exercise but I am having trouble with my fasting number for this pregnancy.

Do you take it for your GD? Any side effects? Did you need to take insulin as your pregnancy progressed?
