@Honeybee: I loved that swaddle & arm trick! DS was only 20inches when he was born though, so we had a bit more room than your LO! Man, I miss the swaddling days!!

@Sweet T: I think maybe my DS was too long for the Russian swaddle? He was over 26 inches when I tried it and the A&A blanket didn't reach higher than mid chest.

I used you receiving blanket trick, though, and that was pure brilliamce! Best trick ever!

We did the Russian Swaddle from the time DS was 6 weeks old until we stopped swaddling at 4.5 months. He was 9lbs 5oz at birth and we never had an issue with it being too small. We used an A+A muslin swaddle (target's version). We would also take a receiving blanket, fold it in half twice length-wise, and use it to secure his arms. It ends up being the same idea as the miracle blanket, just a lot cheaper.

I really liked how the top of the swaddle was around the top of LO's arms instead of above his shoulders. I also like that the bottom part was more like a sleepsack and didn't squeeze his hips at all.

I learned how to do the russian swaddle from this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM7kmgXqKpg

& Here's a video to kind of give you an idea of what to do with the receiving blanket. Instead of a triangle, I always folded ours into a rectangle. I didn't wrap ours around his shoulders either. It was lower down, maybe a little lower than the swaddle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad0x_zAQC5A&feature=fvwrel

We do the double swaddle. Now that she's older, she doesn't like the 2nd blanket, so we do one blanket and a sleepsack.

I never quite got the hang of swaddling w/a blanket, so we used the SwaddleMe and Halo Sleepsack w/swaddle...

We use the same swaddling technique. I tried the Russian swaddle with DS, but he was too big for it! I think it would have worked better when he was still a newborn.

It seems like there are so many different methods of swaddling out there...we have been using several and used the Dr. Karp way last night and LO slept 10.5 total hours, it was amazing! If you don't use a swaddle blanket, like a SwaddleMe or Miracle, what swaddle method do you go with?
