@MamaBehr: Hey, thanks for checking in. I'm really trying to hold it together, but it's just starting to get to be a little too much to handle for me. I feel like I'm constantly trying to hold back tears. Which is not like me at all. I'm usually a happy, positive person, but this whole process has really affected me and I hate it.

@struggleisreal: thanks. I am really hoping it'll be a big drop down tomorrow so I don't have to get another shot. The thought of waiting 3-6 months to TTC is really bumming me out. I'm trying to remind myself that it just means more time with my daughter as our only child and we can create memories with just her. I have a group of local women who support me and know what's going on (my own family doesn't know) and I can count on them for prayers and help if needed, which is helpful. I just need to keep thinking about that and focus less on the negative.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: Hugs. Hang in there. Usually they expect the numbers to still go up from the day of the shot until 4 days after. Then they look for it to go down 15% between days 4 and 7 after. I hope it does that for you. Also, it sucks, but if you have to get another shot, you will get through that, too.

Had to get a blood draw this morning, and getting one tomorrow because it still went up slightly. I'm praying it goes down so I don't have to get another shot. I'm super down about all this. Having a really rough weekend.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: so sorry :(
I had surgery for my ectopic so no help here- I never had to test again. With mine I never got above 400. They did tell me it could take weeks for hcg to come to zero. I had a negative urine test at my fu appointment three weeks later.

Thanks for the responses. Even though it sucks that we've been through this.

I was under the impression that hcg levels can take a while to come down. That's what the nurse said when I asked about it But it looks like y'all got yours down in a week. My Dr said that I'd keep doing draws until it's zero.

And From what I remember, it sounded like my Dr said that I could try again after a month, but where I've read about the shot, it takes 3 months. I guess I'll just have to ask my Dr next time I see or talk to him to clarify.

The one bright spot in this is that my Dr has been really awesome. I overheard him say to his nurse after I was leaving the exam room, "I love that girl"and when he left me a personal message at 930 that night he finished with, "love ya!" Which is just so incredibly sweet and much needed to hear that he really cares.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I didn't have the same experience as you but I did have the methotrexate shot after surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy - my HCG numbers were holding steady at around the 100level for about week after. So they gave me the shot, drew my blood again the following week and it was down. I think a week is a standard timeframe for HCG levels to go down. I was bleeding before so I'm not sure about that part. I had to wait a cycle before TTC-ing again. Mainly so that the medicine doesn't impact a pregnancy (or so I read). It's used to primarily treat cancer cells in high doses. We get a much smaller dose but it's the same idea. So you'd want to make sure that it's out of your system before you start trying again. Also - it zaps your folic acid intake so during your break cycles keep on taking them. As for clomid, I took them even though I ovulate and have regular cycles. It was the most basic form of fertility meds to take so I think that's why doctors start with them, esp if there's no glaring issue. Again, so sorry you're going through this. Hugs.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I can completely empathize, as I just went through a similar situation in August, minus a D&C beforehand. My HCG levels weren't rising fast enough. Wouldn't have been able to see anything on an ultrasound, so they didn't try to look. I also ended up having a methotrexate shot just in case it was ectopic.

I didn't really know what to expect either -- would something happen suddenly? Take time?

For me, it took about a week after the shot to start bleeding. I had a very heavy period and passed some tissue that they said was the built-up uterine lining. My office's practice is to give the shot then test HCG levels on days 4 and 7 after the shot. The numbers still didn't decrease as much as they wanted (they wanted a 15% change from 4 days to 7 days post-shot, and mine was only a 10% decrease), so I had to have another shot. Then several days later, my HCG levels finally dropped to "normal" in a range bet. 0-6.

I was told that I have to wait 3 months to TTC again after my 2nd shot. I really don't fully understand why, and my Dr gave me some literature that really couldn't give a definitive answer.

Huge hugs. I hope this helps. I found it very lonely having to go through it, especially with constant blood draws, the shot, and being in waiting rooms with other pregnant women getting their 2nd and 3rd tri screenings and glucose tests.

sorry you're going through this. I had an ectopic and I think it took about a week for my level to get to 0. But, I don't think my hcg was as high as 1800, maybe around 500. They could see it in my tube during an ultrasound.
I was told by one doctor to wait a few months before trying so that the shot would be out of my system, but my other doctor said it was fine to try the following month.

I haven't heard of clomid helping with low progesterone. What about taking progesterone after you ovulate?

good luck! I hope it resolves soon

Ugh, I don't even know where to start. I had a miscarriage and d&c in July. Got the go ahead to try again after 1 cycle, which we did. Had a 21st day luteal test for progesterone levels and I was low. Got a positive pregnancy test on the weekend I was due to get my period. Got on progesterone but my hcg levels were not rising like they should, so was told to stop progesterone and wait for miscarriage. Nothing happened, so went in for more draws. My hcg was 139, then 10 days later was 1800-something. Rose rapidly, but it still was not high enough for a viable pregnancy. Dr was worried about an ectopic, so I went in for a sonogram, but they could not see anything in my uterus or tubes. Dr doesn't think it's ectopic, but wants to get me over this so I can move on. So he orders a methotrexate shot. I got it on Wednesday and did another blood draw this morning to check levels. My question is, how long did it take for anything to happen after getting the shot? Should anything happen at all? What was your experience? My Dr wants me to zero out my hcg before I try again, which I guess can take a while. He also wants me to do clomid when we're ready to try again, even though I am really fertile and get pregnant easily. I'm guessing it will help with my progesterone and the lining of my uterus to help the baby stick.

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has had experiences similar to mine and how it went. I'm super frustrated and I feel like this is going on forever.
