@nana87: That's good to know, thanks! We'll have a 2 year old and 4 year old and I can't find a ton of options that have a club or daycare where the 2 year old could go to (although he might hate being left there anyway so it might not matter).

@LadyDi: there was! though for our 2 yo, it was pretty limited--they have a play room that's attached to the area where 3-4 yos play too, but they aren't allowed to participate in the special planned activities unless a parent is there (like, arts and crafts projects with small pieces...). lo1 loved the kids club and wanted to stay a long time (they had things like cookie baking and puppet shows that she was super into), but lo2 mostly stuck with us. she did well there when she was with lo1, but started crying so badly they called us back when lo1 went to a puppet show without her

I wanted to update since we just came back from Paradisus Playa del Carmen La Esmeralda— it was lovely! We were on the family concierge side of the hotel and it was so family friendly and prob the most relaxing vacay you can have w a 2 and 5 yo lol. Yummy food too though the reservation system for booking dinners at places other than the main restaurant is a little wonky!@skinnycow:

We took a trip to MX when our youngest was about 6 mos. I didn't want to leave the country, but my husband pointed out that there are more direct flights from Cancun to our local airport than many domestic locations. Based on that, we decided we wanted to stay close the airport. A lot of the great resorts others had recommended were 60-90 minutes away. We went with LeBlanc Spa Resort in Cancun. It was amazing. It's in the hotel zone of Cancun, so you don't get the secluded feel of some of the other resorts. However, the food and drink were great, and the service was impeccable. It also gave me peace of mind to only be 20 minutes from the airport in case of an emergency.

Our honeymoon was to Casa Velas in Puerto Vallarta. It's adults-only all inclusive and it was AMAZING. It's a boutique so very small but you have access to their other resorts in the area as well. It was so quiet and peaceful. We also went to their sister resort (Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit) one night for dinner, and that was family friendly. It was beautiful as well. I think in December you would have a blast there! The weather would be awesome!

adults only The Royal in playa del Carmen if you want to stay busy and party a little. It is right downtown and easy to walk to market, cafes,. and bars. food is good and beach is nice (but public so packed)

Another adults only: if you want to relax only I suggest El Dorado-Casitas by Karisma. Best food we've had an at all-inclusive and everything seemed very high end. Casitas section is very quiet, we shared a pool with only a few other rooms, and the beach is secluded and quiet. The "el dorado' end of the resort is more party oriented but access to same food etc, but it is quite a bit less quiet due to more shared pools and beach. If someone was reimbursing us for our trip, we'd be booking here again as the Casitas were pretty expensive but totally worth it!!

If you do adults only, The Beloved (near Cancun) was amazing. The same company (Excellence) has another hotel called The Finest, which is also supposed to be great. We had a trip booked to the Finest after a lovely visit to the beloved but we ended up needing to cancel since I was pregnant.

@skinnycow: We went to Grand palladium Colonial in Rivera Maya last year and it was extremely family friendly. They offer kids clubs ages 1 and up too. It's a huge resort complex so you get access to a lot of restaurants and the spa was absolutely amazing.

@skinnycow: It was pretty good! Not amazing, but at every meal there was something I loved (at the buffet). The poolside Mexican themed dinner was outstanding! We only tried a couple of the reservation places - the Italian place wasn’t great but the other three we tried were really good.

We haven't gone yet, but we have a vacation planned for Paradisus Playa del Carmen La Esmeralda and I am soooo excited! It was a really decent deal and family-friendly, there's supposedly even an airport shuttle w car seats....

We went to Grand Princess All Suites a couple years ago for a wedding. Definitely one of the nicest resorts we’ve stayed at...not adults only but we went without kids and it was awesome.

For family friendly, the Marival resort in Nuevo Vallarta is great. You can get a suite, so you don’t have to go to bed when the kids do, they have lots of programming through the kids club, a dedicated kids pool with little water slides, and self-serve ice cream carts around the property.

DH won a trip to Mexico through work - we will be reimbursed for the trip and the only requirement is that the trip is to Mexico.

Unfortunately, the kicker is that I'm pregnant (due in June) and the trip must be taken by the end of this year. We obviously can't go while I"m pregnant (ugh, Zika) so we're looking at either taking a family trip close to the end of the year with a 3.5 year old and 6 month old in tow or leaving them behind and doing an adults-only trip. We haven't committed to either option, so I'm open to recommendations for both family-friendly and adults-only options! I'm not sure that I'll be ready to leave the baby behind at that age but I'd much rather take a trip without kids.
