Agreed that it is sooo much easier at 4 months. You can easily hold them the entire flight without them trying to run around and it's so much easier to comfort them if they cry. I would do it - it sounds like so much fun! But agree with the sun - try to find UV clothing that'll be lightweight and breathable.

Yes to the passport. No to leaving him at home. (What is it with MILs???)

The only thing I would "worry" about is the sun because he will be too young for sunblock or chlorine (the second is just my opinion) - make sure you bring lots of hats and lightweight but full coverage clothing. And HAVE FUN!!!

We took my son to the beach in Acapulco when he was 4-5 months old and it was fine. I mean, not much of a "vacation" with a little baby but I definitely wouldn't have left him at home!

We kept him in the stroller, in the shade/covered a lot of the time, and also I'd nurse him side-lying by the pool under a towel, and that way he'd nap for awhile too. I put him in the pool and in the ocean too, just for a little bit, when the sun wasn't too hot.

He does need a passport.

@stine_ciro: I agree completely she has been asking incessantly about him staying overnight, he's 8 weeks old and breastfed!

I'd take him. The resorts are very safe and most have filtered water for everything, so you don't have to worry about any of that. He will need a passport.

We are considering a trip to Italy when our LO will be 5 months and I've had several people say we should leave her with my parents, but I just don't want to. When she's older, sure, but not that early.

My DH has a conference at an all inclusive in Cabo when J will be 4 months old. My MIL thinks we need to leave the baby home, I think he'll be fine and I'm not ready to leave him yet. ;)

Thoughts? Suggestions on flying/time change/etc? Does he need a passport?

ETA: it looks like I'll be flying one way by myself with him so suggestions on that would be helpful as well.
